On Monday, the car developed a whining, all of a sudden.
Similar to the sound of brakes dragging but manifesting as more of a hum, than a grate. It was attached to vehicle speed, not engine speed, it disappeared at standstill and didn’t show itself if you revved up the engine in park.
My mind was already racing through the possibilities.
A bearing getting ready to explode?
Imminent gearbox failure?
Day off today and I take the car into the dealer, it’s still doing the noise. They ask me to pull it into their staging area and he acknowledges the whining as I do so.
”I think I have an idea, give us a few minutes”
They take it into their bays out back and someone returns about five minutes later holding a highly distressed, plastic coffee cup lid.
”This had got stuck underneath”
?
Whine gone, and I can quit whining.
