I see little discussion of it, and the threads that do discuss it are locked from further comments.

My wife hit something in the road that destroyed the transmission, to the tune of $7700. So, a little too late I got the Rival skid plate and a 1.5" lift kit. It will look tougher even if I'm too late to solve the initial problem.

Anyway - I was surprised by having a hatch for the oil drain plug, but not the filter. Has anyone made their own hatch? Or done the oil filter relocation?

I bought the Derale kit someone mentioned in a locked thread, but haven't completed the install as I continue to think about it (plus I am not due for an oil change any time soon).

There is a spot above the driver's side wheel well with three holes that were perfect for threading in vibration isolating studs. Then cut a piece of aluminum to land on there, and added holes for the mounts and the filter holder. All can be removed in about 3 minutes if I don't like it since no permanent modification was made. Plus it allows room for a bigger filter, too.

But, it is just at about a foot higher elevation than stocker filter, plus uses maybe just under 5 feet of hose. Oil volume will be higher, and I don't want to impact oil pressure.

Was hoping to see what anyone else might have done and how it is working?!?

That link is where I got the idea!

If it was vertical, with the filter pointing up or down, it would be better, but this horizontal approach fits best for what I have tried to figure out. Most of the oil should drain back down the hoses once the drain plug is opened, so then when I remove the filter it should just be holding oil lower than the fittings. But, I do have room to get under the filter while still attached, so I could get a bag or some rags in there to keep it as clean as possible.

Yes I only posted the link to cross reference but as you said the thread there is locked

It does seem like most of the oil should drain back down as you stated

I have seen people post they cut the skid plate as you described in your post above, one downside is the more openings on a skid the more opportunity to run something over that causes damage to components above the skid plate.

If you decide to enable the remote oil filter system please let us know how well it works.

And... The amount of oil left behind would be the same as the stock filter location (if still using the original filter), which can just drip down into a pan or dribble down the front of the engine, so I hope it isn't too bad on the wheel well.

Wish they would have designed the engine with a top access oil filter. I installed the Rival skid plate; access hole for the drain plug is in the wrong spot...I think it was designed for the first year model. So, you have to drop the skid plate to do an oil service...IMO, not too big of a deal as it's only removing 6 bolts as opposed to all those screws with the OEM fiberboard shield.

Hmmm... I didn't verify if the drain plug was in the wrong spot. I'll have to look before I bother modifying the oil filter part. Maybe I just take it down each time, anyway.

On the Rival skid plate, I didn't like those "wire T" nuts and felt they wouldn't last with repeated removal and reinstallation. So I put stainless jack nuts instead, which seem more sturdy, and can be easily replaced if necessary. But, I think the belly pan now requires 12 bolts to remove.

Popped the cover off the Rival skid plate and was relieved to see the oil drain does line up with the opening on my wife's 2022 Big Bend.
