Need advice. Am I getting "screwed"? Should I allow dealership to add this to new badlands I'm about to order?

Can't you order it through the Ford website? If you order it through the dealer it's the same process, they'll just submit it instead of you. Doc Fee will probably stay at $500 regardless with a custom order, since that'll probably be all they make off the car. VTR you don't want. That's a semi-scam. Paint protection from the dealer is a scam. If you really want paint protection buy it without it then take it to a reputable shop that specializes it and get a ceramic coating and/or film coating. Will be done 10000x better.

Have you looked at the build with just the Fender Flare Kit I? I know II is body color, but I is far cheaper (just plain black) and the contrast looks nice, plus it's just plastic and is intended to be a "get beat on" piece of the vehicle so it can be replaced later if it gets damaged.

Thanks for your reply! So the "fender flare II" is just painted plastic to match AREA 51? Whoops, I didn't realize it's just plastic. I don't like how the "fender flare I" looks in black color. Whereas the "fender flare kit II" is beefier in size... and I think it looks cool being in AREA 51 color... but if that thing is just plastic... it has me second guessing if I want it or not...

Interesting, thanks! I didn't even think of that. If I order through the ford website I wonder if they will provide me with "Purchase Agreement" form I can sign that needs to lock in my out the door price so I'm not weaseled around on price once delivered... where would the car be delivered then... still to a dealership I wonder? Is reason I ask this.

EDIT: Whoops... so I should have kept the mud flaps? I initially added it for only 220 bucks for front/rear but then I removed it. So I should add that back for front and rear? Thanks!!

PS: ford website says "splash guard" but then it also calls it "mud flaps" so I guess they are same.

There are 2 different types of splash guards / mud flaps. The above are the ā€˜splash guards’, much cheaper. I think they’re a harder/thinner plastic. This is all I asked my dealer to put on the vehicle as I think they’d be fine for most use.

These ones should be what I thought were the ā€˜mud flaps’ though this site calls them all splash guards. Much more expensive, a thicker/heavier more rubber type I think.

You are without a doubt being taken advantage of…start emailing your quoted price to other dealers, all you can do is try.

Interesting! I did not even notice that... yes I see now they're different. To add "splash guards" to front/rear it's $220. To add "mud flaps" to front/rear is $680

.... so I should add at least the splash guards?

Warpious and BoxerBronco,

Thanks! Yikes I'm going to another dealership next week... hopefully I'll get better numbers after I stick it to them.

I ordered mine with Splash Guards and they were factory installed not dealer installed. Cuts down on rock chips and dirt mudd getting flung on side of car.

You won't be able to order through Ford web site. You can do Build and Price then you can send the build to dealers in your area for quote to through the Build and Price site. Purchase Agreement you will have to request and should go to dealer to sign.

Thanks that's what I did... last week I went on ford and sent the dealer the exact build I want... but then dealer added "desert protection" and "BT security system" to it. I'm going to take my build and present it to another dealer so I can compare the two... I'll make sure they do not add extra things...

Whichever way you feel is best to go. Either option should be available from your dealer as well (that’s how I’m doing the cheaper splash guards on mine when it gets here) so if you miss out on putting them on the build it’s not a huge deal. My dealer’s cost worked out to be about the same as adding things at the factory for most, but some things were more expensive.

I know there was a thread going here somewhere where the cheaper splash guards weren’t compatible with the fender flares from the factory at least (they did fit them with a little cutting to the guards). But I didn’t take note if that affected the bigger/heavier ones at all.

I'm in AZ. I just emailed the sales guy and told him to remove the "desert protection" and the "DT security system" or I cannot proceed. He replied with the below:

"I'm sorry but I cannot remove the add ons. We keep that on all of our incoming vehicles.
If you cannot proceed we understand.
Thank you,"

He then IGNORED all my other questions I asked in that same email. I've pasted below the exact email I sent him incase anyone's curous:

1. I really do not want the ā€œdesert protection packageā€ or the ā€œBT alarm systemā€. Please remove those addons or I can’t proceed. Pease do not add more things (add-ons) to the car… I simply want the build I specified and sent to you.
(Note: I’m going to be having my windows tinted with ceramic/carbon at another place (not at the dealership).

2. I need it in writing that the ā€œfender flare IIā€ will be included at dealership (fender flare to be in AREA 51 color). Is this fender PLASTIC? What material is it exactly?

3. Why is the DOC fee so high?

4. I also need to know what is the WARRANTY on this car… what does it cover and for how many miles?

5. What is the deposit amount I need to pay to secure this car and will it ensure 100% that NOBODY else can get this vehicle once it arrives? I don’t want to be in situation where, once car arrives, if someone else is interested in it that they can buy car if they are willing to pay higher price. I need to ensure the vehicle is SECURED to be sold to me at the price listed on the ā€œbuyer order form/ Purchase Agreementā€ you want me to sign right now. This signed Purchase Agreement needs to lock in my out the door price. I don’t want to be weaseled around on price once delivered.

6. Please remove VTR!

Thanks!

Considering you are placing an order vs.buying off the lot, I would agree you could do better. On the other hand some of those add-ons that this dealer has tagged on should be negotiable. I can understand not wanting the alarm system and the desert protection package and you should say the order is a no-go unless they are are removed or they adjust the pricing to something you can both agree on, the doc fee is also high, some dealers try to pad profits anyway they can. A dealer should make a profit, but not by overpricing fees and add-ons.
Good luck with your order and purchase wherever you go.
