Many have reported their infotainment system starts up with the radio as the selected source instead of the last-used source (USB stick, phone-based program, etc.). I use Android Auto with a couple of different apps providing audio:
Your infotainment system will remain on, playing whatever source you have selected after you shut off the engine until you open the door. Opening the door shuts down SYNC. For my car, if SYNC is playing a source when I open the door it will try to access that source when I restart. If it cannot access that source it will switch to the radio.

The solution that works for me:
  1. Turn SYNC's audio system OFF (press the power button) prior to connecting a phone and activating Android Auto.
  2. Prior to opening the door after engine shut down (which shuts down SYNC), I disconnect my phone from SYNC.
This ensures NO audio source is playing at SYNC shut down, therefore SYNC starts up with audio turned off. Android Auto starts automatically after I connect my phone, and I can select my desired audio programming on my phone using the AA interface.

I would suggest those of you who do not use Android Auto or CarPlay try some experimentation of your own.

Thing is I don't always want or need to use Android Auto, but I always want my phone media to play. But the car will not smartly switch between Bluetooth audio and Android Auto. It likes to default to the radio when Android Auto is disconnected instead of defaulting to the thing it last used which was Bluetooth. It's a bit of a dumb design. It's not that I want the radio off, it's that I don't want it to default to FM or Sirius after Android Auto has disconnected.

I had the CSP 24B47 done in mid July and no longer have the issue of radio going to AM at start up.

Yes but likely that was a different issue caused by Sync 3.4.22251 and some saw that AM radio behavior even after going to 23188 thus the need for Customer Satisfaction Program 24B47 (the original issue was insufficient R/W memory on the APIM where Sync runs)

I think that's what everyone would prefer. In the meantime, I would rather the system be off than to boot up and immediately begin blaring a radio source at high volume.

In my case the radio turns on sometimes on its own even if I am on CarPlay, as long as I am not listening to anything. Sometimes I just want to drive in silence. It's ridiculous that all of a sudden the radio blares and I have to turn it off. Should be an easy SW fix for Ford to remember that I hardly ever listen to the radio. Bummer

When you are on CarPlay are you positive it’s the radio turning on? Reason I ask is iPhone has a habit of playing music on its own.

This is Vin # specific. My 2021 BL isn't on the list per Ford and they won't do the CSP. I don't know what criteria they use to determine what vehicles are included.

I have the problem, but my BL isn't eligible? A multi-billion dollar company can't figure this out with a software update for everyone?

Rumor is because you are already on Sync 3.4.23188, 24B47 does not apply to you.

also… isn’t your problem “continually losing the last media (USB stick with music) I was using when I shut the vehicle off” or do you also have the issue with radio going to AM at start up?
The USB Device issue is different from the radio going to AM issue.

And your wireman name … is that because you were an electrician?

“This (Customer Satisfaction Program 24B47) is just an update to 23188 using FDRS and only applies to around 800k* vehicles.
FDRS bypasses the Sync install process, clears the RW data partition, removes the old app files and copies the new ones in.
If the vehicle is a 3.4.x native vehicle and is already on .23188 the CSP doesn’t show in FordPass or the owner page.”

*see link, the 800k number includes a number of Ford models not just Bronco Sports

Dude, correct my issue is with the USB. I know you & Mark are the go to guy's for all this technical stuff and you both contribute a lot to the rest of us understanding some of these issues.

My point is this could be a software problem also. Maybe a module problem. I was hoping Ford would add it to the CSP because I'm losing a setting, just not a radio setting. I guess I'm one of the few who have to deal with it. I don't have a lot of confidence taking it to my service department since it happens most of the time but not always.

You know, leave it a couple days and we will check it out, only to be told "we can't reproduce the issue." Maybe someday it will hiccup and work like it should.

No not an electrician. I was a copper & fiber splicer, aerial & underground, for Ma Bell for Boo Koo years.

Your Ma Bell aerial & underground copper & fiber splicer job sounds pretty cool and also probably could be dangerous at times!

It was interesting and challenging for sure in many ways .Copper splicing is dying at this point. Fiber is the thing.

Most of the splicers now have no idea what a 3600 pair pulp cable is, let alone splice one.

An example of underground splicing a pulp cable in a manhole for your viewing pleasure.
Probably give me nightmares now.

I had several issues going on, not just the radio going to a spanish speaking am setting. Mine would not save XM stations, Nav destinations, would no longer connect to my wifi because it would not save my password, and a few other issues. The update was done when I had it in for the battery charging recall. Just got the CPS letter yesterday. So I guess mine was on that recall list,

Hope the CSP works for you. Seems like most of those eligible for the update are owners of 2023+ vehicles.
