You are the first person I've seen report groaning noises on the front brakes. Can you be more specific? All the time, or just when applying the brakes? Forward or reverse? Braking force applied (hard or soft)? Vehicle speed?
I wouldn't say so much of a moaning noise but more of a loud growl when the brake pedal is applied (sounds like something is dry) and pretty much only when the brakes are cold, like when I first pull vehicle out of the garage in the morning......and again, my 25 year old car doesn't make these noises. Also, the brake dust is horrible; in a week after cleaning, I cannot tell what color the front wheels are. This all happened with the front brakes after the brakes were replaced on the recall; quiet and extremely low dust. If I only would have known, I would have denied the recall.

Did Ford replace your front brakes as part of a recall? Some earlier cars were identified as not meeting a specific brake performance test, prompting a recall. The front brake pads were replaced with higher-friction alternatives on affected vehicles. The replacement pads were almost certainly semi-metallic (among the highest friction pads available) which are prone to the noise heard in the video.

Yeah, that is pretty much it. Pretty sad that a brand new vehicle sounds like it is 30 years old. I will definitely stay away from Motorcraft brakes when it comes time to replace them.

I don't think it has to do with the brand, it has to do with pad composition. Semi-metallic pads are high friction, which means they're a bit grabby, especially when the wheels are turning slowly. Just about every car I've ever installed semi-metallic pads on makes this same noise. You can recreate it by ever-so-slowly releasing the brakes while sitting at a light. You'll hear the noise just as torque from the idling engine overcomes brake friction. It's the disc slipping between the pads. If you replace your pads with organic or ceramic alternatives it'll almost certainly eliminate the noise, and you'll reduce dust as well. The down side is it'll cost you, and you won't get the same braking performance.

For sure ceramics are the next pads going on. I had ceramics on my Ram 1500 and they were great. Ceramics are getting more popular so the costs are not really too bad. I don't know what brakes are on my C5 when I bought it but do not make this noise all. This noise just drives me crazy because it did not make the noise before recall....I think Ford used the cheapest brake material they could because they all these vehicles in the recall and it was costing them money. Ford's quality (among many other brands) has taken a big crap lately and this will be the last Ford I ever own. We also have a 2011 Escape and a 2018 Fiesta and they are both great vehicles; I have done the front brakes on the Escape pads and it does not make these noises, pretty sure those are semi-metallic as well as that is the most common pad to buy at any auto part stores. AutoZone brakes, quiet, low dust, no issues.

That's almost certainly the case; manufacturers will almost ALWAYS select the least expensive supplier. Whether or not "least expensive" translates to "poor quality" is a subjective judgement call. The only thing we know for sure is the defect prompting the recall required higher-friction brake pads. That means the pads installed provide more friction than the ones installed at the factory, and more friction means better stopping performance. Many people would say "better performance" equates to "higher quality." Everyone's priorities are different.

My noise is not quite as "chattery" as the noise in the video, but it is similar. I have no doubt it is the pad composition. Definitely switching to ceramics when the time comes. Cheers!

My 23 Big Bend did it for a couple of months. Then it just stopped. It's been raining every other day for the past couple weeks and she won't do it anymore.

There is some evidence that you can eliminate/reduce the amount of chattering by changing the way you use the brakes. A few (4-5) hard brake applications will get the disks hot, and help clean off any contaminants that may be contributing to the issue. Perhaps the rain is providing a similar cleaning function for you.

I have the same issue. I took my truck to koons Ford on security blvd. They said it was a recall. Had my truck for 4 days until they called me to let me know that they were waiting for a part. Ok finally after a month the "part" came in. They called me after they "fixed" the recall. Well, I parked the truck at home for approx. 4 hours. When I backed up OMG the noise was still there. I called Koons and my service rep was supposed to have called me back. That was 1 month ago. I am just going to drop it off again. SMH I know this did not help you, yet I want you to know know that you are not alone in this noise matter.
Good morning. Would you please send over a private message with your VIN and dealer info so I can look into this noise concern on my end?
