Love my Bronco Sport- Badlands... fits my needs as both a daily driver and weekend adventurer! I've taken it off the beaten path many many times and pushed it to her limits on some occasions...

BUT...

If I could find me an old Sub/WRX like these...man-o-man... I'd be tempted to break the piggy bank and grab one for sure. Not as a replacement.. but just because!

What's yours ?

You should be driving your better option. Subarus reliability is skewed by the 100k warranty and requires specialized mechanics. Owners dump them at 100k miles. The knobs and controls are annoying and small. The 4 runner should have a curly tail and is dated and boring.

I have thought about trading my Bronco Sport HLE for a Bronco HLE. I almost did it last year but finally decided I did not like it as much for my daily drives. I will change once Bronco or Sport is a hybrid (preferably a PHEV).

Also, there are 151 WRX currently on CarMax.

Just one possibility. You might win the rally, but I will sleep better.
I was just breaking my piggy bank to get a beater... but hell lets go in the other direction...lol

I love seeing posts like this, I had a 2004 WRX Wagon with an imported EJ205 from Japan. Still the favorite car I have ever owned, I want to get another one some day but they are getting harder to find.

You could also get an Old Forester xt. It didn't have the awesome 6-speed transmission and triple limited slip diffs and controllable center diff output the old STI's did but it was basically a WRX in a Forester and you still got the rear limited slip. It's actually pretty comparable to the current Badlands and it's they made them all the way back in the early 2000s so you could get one without all the dumb tech of nowadays and a manual transmission got it. Kind of want to go buy one right now if I wasn't so locked into mine.

So I actually had a full size bronco manual transmission two-door before my baby broncos and it actually wasn't that bad as a daily driver. But yes you will get at least five MPG worse gas mileage I would say at least and I did have the hardtop cuz it was a two-door and I had no options at least then and it was loud over 60 mph but not unbearably so. Also the only thing I didn't like about the manual was the gearing between 5th and 6th. Seemed a little too big and in the mountains it seemed to kind of struggle to do 75 and I either had they go faster and get higher in the RPM range or downshift to 5th and rhe engine out more which I didn't like to do but I loved it and I could have totally lived with it as a daily And the only reason I got rid of it was too high for my dog And at the time we could make using a ramp work plus I hate to say it but I did make nine grand selling it. But that definitely was not the plan when I bought it.

Ok if we’re talking summer / 2nd vehicle here, this would be my dream, a FB ad that just popped up here. Sadly these go for enough money nowadays that it doesn’t make sense as a 2nd car.

Now if we’re considering a daily driver with enough modern tech & practicality, I did drive this a couple weeks back now. Pretty nice, it felt like a decent redo of my favorite 2007 F150 (& was about the same price adjusted for inflation oddly enough as I tried a current gen F150 as well). If it was 22 all over again I’d have ordered a Lariat with the 2.7 (this one was XLT & their 24 Lariat had the 2.3)... but…

I’ve been questioning lately & wondering if I don’t need to go for more than Ford offers anywhere in their lineup. Something like this would take me well into retirement with comfort & capability. It’d either be a forever car or hold its value in a trade if not. But at 35% more than the Ranger it also represents a step higher than I’ve ever bothered with in a car before.
