Don’t know if anyone has encountered this but it’s happened twice to me during the past two years.
After startup and the little intro movie is showing on the screen it will go black. No audio, no nav, no nothing. Restarting doesn’t work, but once I get out of the BS and leave it for awhile, it works normally. Happened again yesterday in a strange city. It’s frustrating!! Would appreciate any thoughts.

Hey there! If you send over a DM with your VIN and Ford dealer info, I can look into your display concern on my end.

This used to happen in my Camaro. Was told it was a cache deletion issue or some BS like that. It would always take like 5-10 mins of it being off then restarted to work again. Wonder if Sync is subject to the same issue.......weird

Sounds like the exact same problem.
Thanks.

My wife's 2007 Toyota Prius had a similar issue. Unfortunately, since the vehicle was well past warranty coverage, Toyota offered to replace the display for $5,000.

A bit of googling turned up information that the root cause of issue was an underspec’d capacitor that tended to fail over time. There were several videos that detailed the fix - a complete dashboard disassembly to gain access to the PC board, and a swap of a 30uf capacitor for a 100uf capacitor.

So one Saturday, I spent the morning and afternoon taking apart the dashboard, replacing the capacitor, and reassembling the dashboard. Total cost $0.30 for the new capacitor, and 8 hours of my time.

Wow. I hope that’s not my problem as it’s way more than I want to handle.
However, since the BS is still under warranty it could become a FMC problem. ?
Thanks for the info!

happened to me maybe twice in the past year and a half. just random, exact same as yours sounds. but it hasn't happened now for some time, so i'm crossing fingers. been on a couple long road trips with the display up and nothing has gone wrong. it does get pretty hot after a while tho.

Yeah I went back and looked. It was called a bluetooth cache deletion issue. I guess the cache buffer would fill up and it would cause some sort of routine to trigger that would halt the booting of the software til the cache was cleared and "rebooted"

Looks like they did update it, but your quote still displays it.

Yeah you get a black screen and nothing responds. You can’t tell your temperatures, no reverse cam, etc. Usually if you Hold the power button and the track right button and it will restart. Mine does this frequently. But happens almost every time I use CarPlay. Did it with iPhone 12 Pro and 14 pro with most utd software. Happens about once a month or when I use CarPlay. Happened as I was leaving for a trip last week and needed nav. Had to disconnect the battery this time. Last time it happened in middle of city while using nav. Screen just shut off while driving. I told Ford, said would be months to get a new panel if it keeps happening. I’ve already been waiting 4 months for a roof panel since mine is separating from the vehicle and that part is marked indefinite for shipping. Good luck
