So I ordered my BS BL Edition back in early February, after 6-7 months of waiting, I've purchased a boat which I already know the BS will not be able to tow (Over 2100 lbs). I am expected to lay my eyes on it, hopefully by the end of next week or the end of the month. So now I have an issue. I currently have a 2014 Ford 150 that can tow my boat just fine. However, I was planning on doing a trade in for the smaller BS.

Now I'm stuck between...

1. Trading in my 2014 F150 and getting the BS, but not having a vehicle to tow my boat. (Maby do a trade in on the BS Later)
2. Keeping my 2014 F150 AND getting the BS, But then not having enough space for 2 vehicles (Also paying insurance etc on multiple vehicles).
3. Trading in my 2014 F150 and getting a 2020+ F150, and basically giving up on my BS I've waited so long for.
4. Keeping my 2014 F150 and giving up on my BS I've waited so long for.

I've been thinking about this ever since I got the shipment email and just can't seem to decide. Anyone else face a similar dilemma, where the wait is so long, your needs have changed and the BS just doesn't fit your needs anymore? I love the BS, but it just can't tow my 20ft boat with it.

I’ll have a similar situation at some point. It sounds like Ford is going to try and clean up a year and half of unfilled orders on the full size Bronco by not opening up the order banks to non order holders until next year. So there’s a chance I’m going to get my 2 door earlier than originally anticipated. I’m starting to like this little Badlands and may not want to give it up as my daily driver. Same issue with towing limitations though although the 2 door isn’t way too much different. You figure it out and let me know ok? :sunglasses:

I think Badlands is rated to 2,200 max tow but that is still a lot of boat.

The market is so hot, I wouldn't trade right now. Do a private sell. Dealers may give more than before but it is still going to be less than a sale price.

The very similar Maverick I think is rated for over 4,000 tow? Maybe you can switch the order.

I'm betting F150 has better availability than either.

How much longer is boat season this year? Two months? You could decide again in about 9 months.

Ya, there isn't too many more months of boating time before I'll have to winterize the boat. However the biggest issue is just dealing with 2 vehicles if I keep both. Insurance x2, parking space x2, Fuel x2, Maintenance x2. etc x2.

Not that I couldn't do it financially, it's just that I don't need/want/have room for 2 vehicles. ?

I just built a new f150 on the ford website and its litterally twice the cost of the BS. ?

I would check truck trade in value with outsiders like Carmax (and similar) too. Sometimes they offer a ridiculous price if they have people wanting a particular vehicle (and in this area, 150’s are hot). Then, if that works, maybe get BS, keep truck thru boat season, decide what to do for next boat season.

Yeah, so what I mean is you can get the BS and drive it for 9 months without worrying about towing the boat. Try it out in the bad weather, etc. Keep the truck or sell it. You won't need the tow for a good while. Parking is an issue; I'm facing that one here at home with 3 vehicles and a 2-car garage. The rest isn't actually x2 though. Insurance discounts the "spare vehicle" on a multi-car policy and you can't burn gas and miles in both at the same time. Decide what to do about the boat in the spring and maybe cars will be available on lots again. Only you can decide what's affordable though.

F150 is like... 70k+ ????? Whoa. One reason I got into the Bronco Sport is that a replacement Chevy Colorado was 50k similarly equipped to my 2006 which I paid $23K for. All the standard features on cars really add up fast.

What is the tongue weight on the boat? Where are you wintering the boat? what are you going to use the boat for? Not trying to be nosey, but boats are a lot of freaking work. It takes a lot of time and energy to go boating. You have to get up early. Load the boat, hook up the boat, drive to a launch, put the boat in the water, park you tow vehicle, pay for said parking all before you can go play. Once you have exhausted your fun, you have return to the launch, put you trailer in the water, load the boat, wash the boat/motor, drive it home, unhook it, unload the perishables. Been there, done that, so over it. Don’t get me wrong, I love being out on the water, it’s just too much work. I would rather rent for a day and not have to deal with all the upkeep. I used my 2014 F150 Screw as a trade. My BS BL doesn’t even have a tow option. I can’t tow my SeaDoo or my 24’ boat. I’m putting them up for sale. That will drop my insurance even more then selling the F150 did.

Just a few thoughts from my perspective. Personally, I’ll keep my BS BL. Best of luck in your decisions. A reminder that it’s not 2 times the insurance, parking and fuel. It will be 3 times as the boat will require insurance, parking, fuel and registration as well. ?‍♀

Ya, it's a lot of work, but I knew what I was getting into when I bought the boat. I'm not too worried about the work associated with it, at least for now. I'm sure as the years pass by my priority's will change, but this was more of a family move and more of a project for me to keep busy, despite my busy work schedule. My family has owned boats pretty much my whole younger life, and made very fond memories. I wanted to be able to give that same excitement to my family. Granted, it's a lot of work, but I'm ready for a few years of it at least ? .

Since you asked, and you enjoy the boat with family, let the BS go. DO NOT trade sell the 14 F150. That was the last of a really great generation of F150s (I have a 13 5.0 SCREW Lariat) that I was going to sell and down size to a Maverick (Instead I let my Mustang go for my BS - I'm older now). So glad I kept the F150. You can always get a BS later. Keep the F150, enjoy the boat & family time with it. (been there done that).
There will be time for the BS later.

I was married to a sailor. We bought the boat in 2003. It was last in the water maybe 10 years ago. My husband passed in 2018, so I’ve been selling the things I no longer need as a single woman. I love the water. I was raised in Southern California and boating is not something I want to do alone, so I’ll travel instead. Maybe keep the truck for towing, but don’t keep it always ready all the time. Winterize the truck with the boat and use the BS BL for all other excursions. Thinking the insurance might be less as a part time driver. The other possibility is move to a smaller tow vehicle. I truly understand the appeal of boating, but I really love my Sport. I drove to California in January and June. In January I drove the F150 (2014 XLT Screw). In June I drove my Sport (2022 Badlands Premium). I preferred the drive in the Sport. Funny thing is I filled the Sport (16 gal tank) at the same places I had to fill the F150 (36 gal tank). I was going just as far on less than half the gas. If you can, maybe buy the Badlands and keep the truck. You know you will be able to sell the Badlands at anytime. Quite probably for a profit.
? More keyboard advice from a lady you’ve never met. Just remember the 2014 was the last F150 year before Ford went to aircraft aluminum. I do look forward to seeing your Sport. That Hot Pepper is starting to grow on me. ?

Out of the box thinking,

Sell the F150 to the highest bidder, CarMax, dealer etc...

Buy the BS BL.

Rent a uhaul or other rental for towing the boat as needed.

Or there is another option depending on the tow weight of your boat. The Ranger has a 7500# tow capacity and the Maverick has a 4000#. You could buy your BS BL without the trade, order a Ranger or Maverick, sell your F150 when boating is done for the season and use the money on the ordered truck or Bronco. It’s all about options.

Just a few random thoughts here, it may not be affordable or even possible.: Can you rent a towing vehicle for towing your boat? Or maybe find a fishing buddy with a towing equipped truck but no boat? Or third, maybe downsize your boat.
