I have a 2021 sport Badlands. I had to get my windshield replaced.

Can anyone confirm if the 2021 Badlands has the heated wiper area? The reason I ask is I saw my old windshield after it was removed, and it had a wiring connector at the base of the windshield.

I didn't get a chance to see the new windshield before it was installed.

I turned on the rear defoster, and the rear window and drivers mirror heated up. No heat in the front wiper blade area at the base of the windshield.

I'm not sure what the criteria is for heating that area. Does the
ambient temp have to be below a certain temp to turn on?

I'm questioning in my mind whether the correct windshield was installed and didn't have the connector.

Any info would be appreciated.

If you are from Canada then a badlands definitely has that option, other than that the only trim that I am aware of that has it is a outerbanks in the USA . I thought for sure back in 2020 when I ordered my first edition that it was on there but I was wrong. .

Not from Canada. I'm here in SoCal so temperatures are mild.

I can't say if it's suppose to be working because I haven't even turned on the rear window heat since I've owned it. I just decided to try it after the windshield was replaced.

I guess I need to find out if it's actually on the 2021 Badlands and if so, how it works. All I know is the old windshield had a connector at the bottom. Whether it was connected or not I can't say.

There are different part #'s for windshields, 1 with the heated wipers and 1 without. The 1 that was ordered by using my vin# shows no heated wipers. So, I'm confused why the old windshield had the connector.

Hoping to hear from a 2021 Badlands owner from the cold belt who can confirm that it's part of the Badlands trim.

With or without the upgrade package, the US Badlands 100% does not have heated wipers. Pretty sure I saw the same heated bed in really bright light on mine. Another case of Ford not adding 1 whole wire to save a buck.

10-4 I mentioned that there are 2 part #'s for the windshield. All numbers are the same except for the last letter is either A or B. "A" is for heated wipers, "B" is non heated. My work order sheet shows the "B" which now looks to be correct.

I guess my confusion is why my old windshield has the connector since the Badlands has no heated wipers. Maybe a parts issue shortage during the build and they installed one for an Outer Banks.

This would be my guess. The heated wiper option requires a window with a heating element, the wiring, a fuse, and a connection to the fusebox. Yours is a Badlands, which isn't equipped with the heated wipers, so it doesn't have the requisite wiring and fuse support. Ford probably ran out of windows without heating elements, and rather than stop production on models that don't have heated wipers they installed windows on hand, and those happened to have heating elements for heated wipers. I realize this doesn't jibe with the Ford-is-always-trying-to-screw-the-customer crowd, but it makes more sense than installing a window with a heating element--which is more expensive then those that don't have a heating element--but not the wiring and fuse, just to save money. I suspect a window with integrated heating element costs far more than the wiring and fuse.

About $117 difference retail between the heated one and non heated.

Well, I'm glad I got this info before I made a fool of myself at the installation retailer claiming I should have a heated wiper area since the old window had the connections.

Just for information a 2021 first edition is in fact also known to be a badlands model with a bunch of extra items included.

This was discussed on the Escape forum when trying to figure out what the blank switch placeholder on the left side of the climate control row of switches was for.

I have 21 big bend. Replaced windshield with Ford glass. Original had a plug that was connected to something. New windshield had a plug dangling from it the tech plugging in. But I don’t know if I have a heated area where the wipers park. I would assume that would work when the defrost is on but I don’t know.

From the picture above in post #4, the wiring colors don't seem to correspond with the ones shown in at least the 2022 wiring diagram (see attached). There is also this from the Owner's Manual:

SWITCHING THE HEATED WIPER PARK ON AND OFF (IF EQUIPPED)
When you switch the heated rear window on, the heated wiper park also turns on.

Cheers!

Per the Ford info sheet I attached in post #4 here, the Outer Banks is the only trim level with the windshield wiper de-icer.

Not sure but I think it works, along with the heated mirrors, when the rear hatch defroster is turned on.

I have the same dark edge around the windshield (Canada / 2021 Outer Banks / extra packages)
I never thought it could be heated?
Can anyone confirm, please. And when / how does it come on?
... since snow collects in the wiper area quire a bit and hard to get out.

Thanks

If the wiring is present, could this be enabled with Forscan?
