My 2022 Sport was dead when I came out of my office yesterday. I had a coworker jump it, and thankfully made the 40-minute drive home okay. To be on the safe side, I took it to AutoZone to have them test the battery. They showed me the test and said the battery was fine. I drove the car back home and parked it. My husband and I took his truck to get dinner. We came back...the Bronco refused to start again. After a few hours of research, it was only around 10pm that I discovered there is an active recall on the 12v battery in my vehicle. I called Ford Roadside this morning (husband felt better having me tow it rather than jumping and driving it again) and they are on their way to get it. The Ford dealer I got it from said they will take a look at it this morning once it gets there. I'm assuming at this rate, because they don't have the battery that the recall will cover, they're going to send me on my way with a battery similar to what I have now. Has anyone else dealt with this issue? If you have, did a new battery (but not the battery the recall wants us to have) keep your Sport running? I do a LOT of driving for my job, and also have 2 major road trips coming up within the next month. I am now slightly worried that a "band aid" battery could see me possibly stranded. Would be happy to hear of some other experiences (though it would also suck if it was happening to a lot of us).

Most auto parts stores use a voltage meter to test the battery. This can tell you the current voltage, but it does not tell you anything about battery function. For that you need to conduct a battery load test.

There are many, many posts here on the site regarding battery issues with these cars. There are also two recalls, one regarding battery management software, the other the batteries themselves. You can check to see if your car is on the recall list at the NHTSA's website, using the FordPass app on your mobile device, or by calling your servicing dealership.

Hi Mark,

I did find the recall information in my app, which surprised me because I had the car in the shop a few weeks ago for another recall, and, at the time, the battery recall information was not on there. That's what sent me down the rabbit hole of then going online to search the problem. I'm just hopeful to find out at this point if others who have gone through this were able to keep their Sport up and running on the "replacement" battery (that isn't the 'new' battery issued through the recall). My dealer's shop already told me they don't have the battery that the recall wants us to have. So I'm just assuming at this point the 'fix' would be to install 'a' new battery, likely similar to the one they're going to need to take out. Additionally, I've seen others suggest to disable the stop/start function in the vehicle.

Got initial notification that my '22 BSOB was included; however, still waiting for the recall notice from Ford.

Yes, I got my car over to the dealer's garage today and they told me the recall is still showing for them as "advance notice." They said they won't expect the actual recall to post until Q2 of this year, when enough of the replacement batteries are available.

We were intending to get a tow. The tow truck reserved through Ford Roadside never showed up. Twice they said they were almost here and twice never updated us with an ETA. We finally jumped the car and drove it across town ourselves, disabling the stop/start function in the hopes we didn't have to stress about getting stuck on the road with the car just shutting down. It made it over there, but it lagged when we hit the gas at every light or stop.

Yes, dealer replaced the original battery under warranty.
That was before the fairly recent battery recall 25S02 that owners are being notified about.

In my case, I have not had any electrical issues since my battery was replaced.

I believe the problem prompting the battery replacement recall would preclude it functioning at all. IIRC, some of those who've experienced sudden shutdown of their car reported they could not even jump start. Make sure your dealership applies the software update related to the Battery Management System. This is a separate recall from the one regarding battery replacement. This update is supposed to better manage alternator output to provide an appropriate charge to the battery while you are driving it. Before I had this update applied to my car I had to put my battery on a charger every few days. Now, it stays charged just from driving regularly.

Auto Zones tester will give you Voltage Reading, CCA Reading, State Of Charge and State Of Health readings.

We have the 760 CCA AGM battery. Have had no trouble but I'm about to put it through some things.

Let ya know how it works out when its done.
My Wife has been sick for a week or so and the BS hasn't been driven in that time. Took it to run some errands yesterday and noticed that stop start, wasn't working. As I understand it, that seems to be an early indicator of battery weakness.

Put it on the charger, maybe 1:00 p.m, maybe a touch later but it was drawing just shy of 6A. About 7:00 pm, it was still taking something over 2A. So, it needed a charge. This morning, it is in float.

I'll let that cook for a day or 2 and then, a much longer test will start.

I wouldn't worry about them putting one of the old batteries in. I think you'll be good for a couple of years. I had my old style battery for 3 years without a problem.

In the winter, with lots of short drives and headlights on much more, I found I need to charge my battery occasionally. I got the recall to recalibrate the alternator charge done a few months ago, and it seems to have helped.

The auto stop start function will stop working when your battery is low. Cold weather, AC on, cold engine, and a few other things will also disable it. If it stops working when the weather is good, car is warm, and AC is off, you know your battery needs a charge, or is going bad.

I agree with all this NMhunter, but I had the recall done a few months ago also and it didn’t help a bit.
For a year now I’ve only driven a few miles around town 1 or 2 times a week. A couple of times I took a 3 hour trip which seems to charge up the battery for a few weeks. The rest of the time in this past year the sync screen shows “power saving mode” when I get in the car. Ford Pass app won’t open due to sleep mode. I started doing 20-30 minute drives to charge the battery and that didn’t change anything. I’ve never had to jump start it though.
I took the advice of some folks here and bought a 1 amp trickle charger, it took 24 hours to charge up fully, and haven’t had any low power sleep mode messages for a month. I expect to need it again soon.
I know I need to drive it more to keep it charged, but I shouldn’t have to waste gas to keep the dang car charged. The little 30 buck charger will help though. My wife drives our 2009 Toyota the same way and we’ve never had to charge the battery, just replace every 5 years.
BTW 2 different recalls popped up on Ford Pass the day before I had an oil change last week. Both for body control module updates having to do with the battery, dealer did both with the oil change. Hopefully these fix something…

I started getting notifications via the app saying the vehicle was going into battery saver mode. Came out one morning and it wouldn't start. Thankfully I have a Noco Boost Plus and jumped easily. Acccording to the app the remedy is to drive the vehicle. That remedy hasn't helped much. Put it on a battery tender but that too seems to help only temporarily. Now noticed the recall in the app. Will contact the dealer this week. Too many recalls for this vehicle. Frustrating.
