I have no idea how or why, but my Ford Pass has been restored to full function on my old I Phone 7.
There is no longer any mention of a "need" to update my IOS to ISO 16.
Hope it lasts !

I have a 4-year-old(?) iPhone SE, Version iOS 17.7, I had some problems as well, seemed around the time they reformatted. All is good now.

Interesting posts, myself I'm not into conspiracies theries or paranoid about big brother. Interested yes, mildly aware, yes, worried one iota, no. However I do have an observation that might be interesting for those who think about who "might" be listening. And by the way, if "they" want to listen then they have had this capability way before the internet.

So back to my expierience; I was driving a few months ago by myself and somebody pulled a bonehead manuever that caused me to brake very hard to avoid said bonehead. I made a lewd and colorful comment outloud after this transpired while at the sametime adjusting my radio. For a brief second my comment popped up on the screen just as if I was making a command. Commands pop up as they should but only when I press the command button on the steering wheel. I didn't do this, my exact words popped up for less than a second but still enough time for me to read them. And this was a 10 or 12 word sentence that I said.

So with that I would say that my car "is" listening based on what I saw. Was it a glitch, maybe, because I'm sure Ford doesn't want people to think they are not only tracking vehicle data and location but actual conversations too. Now was my comment just repeated on the screen as a innocent glitch or was it recorded and sent to Ford, aka "they", I don't know. Does it really bother me, not really as I'm not up to something nefarius but it is an invaision of privacy no matter how you look at it. Unless there is a clear understanding and approval for Ford to do this I am 100% against it. So with all the conspiracy and paranoid thinking aside technology is and will be even more powerful, which plays into those mindsets that it is all bad. I really don't like the invaision of privacy one bit. I'm sure this subject isn't over by a long shot. Good luck all.

if it were me I would have repeated the sequence of events in a safe area (unused parking lot) several times to confirm what I saw and that I hadn’t inadvertently brushed the command button

Whenever this subject comes up -- not just FordPass but any similar system -- we hear:

* If you aren't doing anything wrong/illegal, what are you worried about?
* The person/people who are concerned are 'paranoid conspiracy theorists.'
* Data collection and spying has been going on for a long time.
* If you have a smartphone you are already being tracked.
* I don't have anything to hide -- implying that anyone concerned about spying is a criminal.
*Etc., etc.

All of that misses the point, which is that as Americans, we have an expectation of privacy. If some corporation wants to ask our opinion about various subjects, that's fine. We can chose to answer or not -- fully aware that we are providing that information for them to use and sell.

However, when "opt in" to data/location/audio sharing is automatic -- and the customer is generally not aware -- that's wrong.

All of these data collection systems should be inactive by default. If people want to allow a company to take all of their personal data -- without compensation -- they can opt-in.
