Ford ESP Warranty and Rental reimbursement ?

So I have a Badlands at my local Ford Dealership which may be there for a while... I lost a key fob, but apparently I'm unable to use the vehicle with my second key-fob because you need 2! at all times in order to be programed... possibly the dealer UPSELLING me to buy a second key-fob. No biggie since I will need to have one anyway...

But begs the question... "So having a second key-fob doesn't really count as a back up !?" ugh strange...

Now my second issue is that these key fobs apparently are not kept In stock and will have to be special ordered...hate that word "special $$$" lol So I may be without my BL's until that is completed. I was trying to see if FORD warranty.. and in this case I have the Ford Premium ESP care will provide and/or reimburse me for the rental... I'm waiting to hear from my Service Advisor on this... but wanted to ask the community here if anyone here knows or has had experience with this.

I called a few numbers for Customer Care and of course today being Saturday they are closed until Monday. And, Road Side Assistance could not help with any issues related to a rental... so goes the word assistance, lol

I believe you need two if YOU want to program a new fob, i.e. DIY. The dealer should have the equipment to program a fob even if you have only one, otherwise how could they program a new fob to sell you?

I need to check if my second fob works. I never even opened the envelope.

I carry 1 keyfob and my wife has the other. Both work independently on all functions. They should be able to mirror the one you have as long as the vehicle is there.

I haven't done it on my Bronco, but on my Jeep I ordered one off eBay and programmed it using their directions. That way if I lost one, I could still order another and program it.

My neighbor lost both of her key fobs on her Subaru, and it cost her $2000 to get new ones. The vehicle had to be towed to the shop of course. Special order, so she was out of her car for weeks.

Eek I feel for her…. I heard that Ford (because of chip shortages…) might be returning to regular physical keys. I’m wondering if I can have my BL retrofitted ?

Yes. As well as a locksmith...most have the ability to assign a second one without two on hand.
