I’m weirdly relieved to hear this because I traded my ’21 BB in for a ‘22 because I couldn’t resist the trade in value, and the ‘22 had the towing package I wanted. I just put the seats down for the first time yesterday and I thought I was going crazy.
Glad I’m not going crazy, but the ‘22 has a bunch of bummers. No rubber seat backs standard, crappier start button, no temperature display, no engine cover, no folding headrests... At this point I’m wondering what the next mild disappointment will be. (I really wish I would’ve looked closer when I was negotiating… I would’ve made a bigger stink!)
I didn’t know what I was missing on my 22 BL except the engine cover which I thought was a real ‘crook of shit’ on Ford’s part. Having just paid $40k I went ahead and bought the cover ( that has been fitted to every 4 cyl engine of this type until now) from the cheapest online dealer/seller with the extra fasteners about $100.

simple decision but ridiculous of Ford to expose all that wiring etc.

Nope it should be covered up so you have no hope of finding an issue before it strands you on the side of the road.

I take your point but this cover is only held on by one nut and 3 push on ball studs.
it will also probably reduce the road salt getting to all those electrical connection !
Since I’ll have this BS for 15 yrs or more I’ll do what I can to keep it nice.

Anyone able to find the part numbers for the folding headrests in the ebony/roast leather that the Outer Banks has? My 2022 doesn’t have the folding headrests so wouldn’t mind replacing them.

If you want to protect the electrical connections from salt (or other contaminants) you should open them up and apply some dielectric grease to them. Thinking that the engine pergola is going to protect them from salt is hopeful at best.

I will check it our after next winter, I washed off a lot of salt grime of our Sub cross trek and my Chevy van , stopped a lot of corrosion on the aluminum parts etc .
anything will help ,time will tell and besides if Ford designed it and fitted it for years why suddenly leave it off ? For a non parts shortage reason that is.

Ford can’t install the motor covers from the factory, but the parts department has no trouble getting them for 120$. Must be different Ford MoCo they’re getting them from

I doubt the covers were a constrained item. I’m guessing it was a cost cutting move and they won’t be back.

ok after looking at all the parts listings, the only ebony/roast head rests “with storage” (which I believe is the term for folding) are the ones already posted - but not 100% sure they’d match the Outer Banks leather because I believe the Badlands has that more suede-y look in places?

After messing around loading the bikes today, it seems you don’t have to remove them like I did with the Escape. Just need to move the front seat up to lower the back then move the seat back. Obviously, tilting them would make it easier but…..
