The last car I bought before we got the BS BL was a 2002 WRX in the spring of 2001. I still have it. It's in good shape except for an intermittent steering rack issue. It has over 200,000 miles on it.I used to mile them out long before time. This one I’v driven only as much in 2 years as I’d normally drive in 1.
As for the buying new cars frequently, it has to be many owners. As all I read about on car forums is people with new cars looking for new cars. Browse used car ads. Every 1-3 year old used car was somebody’s that for whatever reason went & did something different. I get it, life can change & change your needs, but needs alone doesn’t account for the amount of 2020s used cars in the market.
I’m not in the minority I find. Used to keep em for a decade & 200K, I haven’t had a car I’d take that far recently.
The one prior to that is my wife's '97 RAV4. We still have it. The body is in good shape but there is a lot of rust underneath.
My preference has been to buy cars new and then keep them as long as possible. We bought the Badlands due to the rust issues on the RAV -- otherwise there's nothing wrong with it. Everything works. It just got to the point where I did not want to work on it anymore. I guess 27 years is a pretty good run.
