I recently did a engine swap from a V6 to V8 in a 2005 Contestable Mustang. The most important thing needed for the swap was the OEM Ford Electrical Wiring Manual. I just don't see how it could of been completed otherwise.

INHO being an old fart that grew up in the 60's & 70's working on those cars/trucks it was way easier to do engine swaps before the time of computers. I would not attempt something like that on a post computer car. I wish you luck.
I am one of thoes oldish farts also, and I can tell you wapping motors in the 80's was the same as the 70's and and way harder than doing it today. if you get the motor harnes and computer, and some times gas peddle if it is fly by wire, all you have to do is worry about adapting engine mounts (like we did in the old days) and then securing wire loom and hooking up power. (and some time boling in a new gas pedel) there is non of the running new wires for sensors or finding compatable sensors for your setup and all the other headachs, its all self contained.

2.02 double-hump heads...Offenhauser STR-10 cross ram, a pair of Holley 390's from some old Mercs. Triangular air cleaners...

If you were swapping one 25MY engine with another 25MY engine (i.e. a 1.5L MPC for a 2.0L MPC) I don't think it would be too bad, other than obtaining all the necessary parts.

The possible challenges in marrying a 24MY engine with a 25MY vehicle are the communication between modules.

Various sensors aren't always hardwired to the ECM and those necessary signals are often shared via CAN. Without lots of additional details that I don't know where you'd go to find, I'd be worried about features/functions not working because the CAN communication database likely changed between 24MY and 25MY. If any of the necessary signals are mapped to a different "address" or aren't available at all, something likely won't work.

As far as the ECM goes, you'll have to use one that matches the engine, which means you'll have a 21-24MY engine and controller trying to communicate with a 25MY vehicle and all its modules.

Personally, I wouldn't roll the dice on this. Whoever suggested the Escape MPC engine... that sounds like a much less risky option to me.

I just found out that 2023-2024 Ford Escape might have the same engine as 2025 Ford Bronco Sport and it’s cheaper.

Since the 2025 You bought was wrecked and the engine is messed up IMO this would be the best swap. Since I bet the electronics are pretty close to the same or are the same as Your 2025 since the 23-24 Escape 1.5 EB is the same as what's in Your 2025.

Agree. Anything that is different can probably be swapped from the old take-out engine to the "new" Escape engine.

My good friend did this with a Focus ST 2.0L EB. Bought it with a known engine issue and found out the 2.0L EB used in the Taurus was the same basic engine, minus the cam cover and a couple sensors. He picked up a low mile used 2.0L out of a Taurus and set them next to each other. The two engines were 98% the same, and the only differences were corrected with minor bolt-ons (cam cover and crank sensor/bracket are two things that I recall) being swapped from the old to the new engine. It's been his daily driver for at least 2-3 years and he's had no issues with it.

I THINK using the Escape engine to replace the damaged BS 1.5L would be a similar situation.
