Hi all! So I have seen and heard all about the gloss black pillars. They scratch and swirl, and I am getting used to it and will most likely wrap them down the road. But I also noticed at the very top of each pillar, there’s little creases. They aren’t full on dents, but almost like little indentions. I definitely notice them more in certain lighting. Is this normal? I also notice them on the edges of the number pad for keyless entry.

I had my BS 4 days and on day two I noticed a smudge on the black post. I used a paper towel and Windex to remove it. The result is fine scratches that wax won't remove.
So you think the solution would be to have them wrapped?

I had Paint Protection Film (PPF) applied to all black piano plastic which hides all swirl marks and “scratches”. These do not have to be removed before PPF is installed - PPF is applied and forever hides the swirl marks.

Gotta use a quality microfiber cloth.

I have some creases as well. Perhaps is normal but IDK. Mine are so minor I no longer notice the few creases.

I’ve seen some people that have them wrapped and it looks super good. Obviously just a pricey option. The scratches and swirls don’t bother me as much as the weird creases that look like little dents.

Okay good to know I’m not alone. It’s still pretty new so my OCD is really bad haha. The creases/indents are only on the gloss pillars. But have no idea what could have done it other than it just coming that way.

You can wrap them to prevent further scratches, or you can simply maintain them. I use a product called Meguair's PlastX to remove swirl marks on plastic parts. I've been using this for years on motorcycle fairings and windscreens, headlight covers, etc. If you use it routinely it only takes a minute or two to keep your parts looking like new. If you allow the scratches/swirl marks to accumulate too much it'll take some time and elbow grease.

The indents are most likely where there are mounting features I the back side. The indents would probably be from the molding process, where the plastic shrunk slightly where the larger cross section of plastic is

Thank you for explaining. Makes sense and makes me feel better about it!

The indents are probably where the attaching hardware is & when it is tightened it pulls that area a little lower then the rest of the panel thus creating an indent.

Ok, that makes sense. I never really noticed them until certain lighting and now that’s all I notice. I even started looking at other gloss pillars around town and they don’t seem to have it as bad or noticeable or even at all. Is this just something I have to deal with or would Ford take care of it? It seems like a defect, not a huge one, but definitely one.
