    There's one in my neighborhood that has a hitch mounted version. I wasn't a big fan of the look, myself. It stuck out way too far. They had a bike rack behind that as well.

    The indents are most likely where there are mounting features I the back side. The indents would probably be from the molding process, where the plastic shrunk slightly where the larger cross section of plastic is
