So called Falken and got clarification.
If you look at the Falken A/T3W size list on their website.
The tires with the product number beginning with the 280 are the actual A/T3W designed per Falken's spec tire.
Tires with the 590 number are tires that have been redesigned to meet the car manufacturers required specifications for an OEM tire.
235/65r17 is only available in the Ford OEM tire spec.
This is why people that have chosen the 235/65r17 are getting a smoother/quieter ride than what you would expect from an A/T tire.

Wow, Just got the Falken A/T3W 245/65r17's installed and it is amazing how much MPG you lose. Probably going from 18mpg to 16mpg if not worse.

At 39lbs. each compared to the Ford AT3W at 31 lbs. each. Oh yeah. Big difference. I think the Falken 235/65/17 is a no brainer tire option for the BS especially the 1.5 motor. Great tire option for this vehicle. I probably will be upgrading my stock Conti's in the Fall. Can't wait.

I really would like those tires, Falken, BF, Toyo, brought the 235 70 17 size, but it is a difficult size... :-(

Yeah, probably so, but you get a much more aggressive tread with the 245.

I know from experience with my F-150 and putting KO2 Raptor Take-Offs on it. Gas mileage shit the bed. But it looks great with those aggressive wheels and tires on it. I don't want to go that route with my BS. I want to keep the gas mileage with a much less aggressive and lighter tire. One off-road beast is enough. :)

Yeah, there is no silver bullet. More aggressive the tread, the heavier the tire. Heavier the tire, the crappier the MPG. Just physics and she is a cruel mistress to us.

I do think if you want 245/65/17, the Toyo Open Country ATIII is the closest compromise. Plenty of folks have run those on this board.

I wish Goodyear would list the weight of their tires. There are a couple of AT tires that they make that are not super aggressive and that I would consider if I knew what they weighed. Dumb.

Check out TireSize.com. They typically have pretty well every tire's specs on that site. For instance, this is what they have on the Goodyear Wrangler TrailRunner AT:

At 245/65/17, it is only 32 lbs.

@Bubmoo it looks like the 245/65 is the winning size. With the lift, I would agree that's a solid choice. Was your intention to replace the wheels as well?
Sorry for responding so late, but i got some sick 245/65 KO2s from Discount Tire Chamblee!
