How did you confirm that the new "B" pump is no change/different from the "A" pump ? Is the "no tensioner" cause still your theory or did you find out that Ford has agreed with you on this ? My original pump is leaking too at 13,000 miles. Belt is soaked in coolant and making a mess !
Tore both pumps down. It's just a new part number. No revision at all. Impeller is exactly the same.

The "no tensioner" is a theory I've heard from a Ford Engineer among other Ford experts. I don't disagree. The way the engine shakes in normal mode, I could see why they'd fail. I run mine in sport exclusively to keep things smooth.

I'll be dumping the 1.5 as soon as I can. It's not a matter of "if" on the water pump, it's "when".

Are these newer water pumps updated for fewer problems?

I think that was just a theory. I haven't seen any evidence to prove that it was. It simply could be just a part number change for some other slight change. Cheers!
