What is FDRS ?
It stands for Ford DIagnostic & Repair System. It's the same program Ford dealer techs use to diagnose and program/update the different modules in Ford vehicles. Assuming you already have a windows based laptop, you'd need to invest about $700 in the cable and battery power supply needed for FDRS as well as pay for acess to FDRS itself.

Even if you had FDRS now, the new software to fix this has not been released yet, so you cannot do it. For things like this, it is better to just wait for the OTA or let the dealer handle it.

The other option is to side-load the IPC software with FORScan, but you'd still need a battery power supply and you'd have to wait for the software to be released to be able to source the files. Side-loading an IPC without FDRS takes 6 hours to flash since it is done via CAN bus and not with a USB drive, so it is not fun, but it is possible.

I hope they have an OTA so I can do it myself.
Thanks for the info.
Oh, I am sure they will. The least expensive and fastest way to roll this out to vehicles will be via an OTA. However, based on my experience with these things, it will be months before the new update is ready and starts to roll out. So don't hold your breathe waiting for the update. 🤣

Just made an appointment for my recall…March 17,2026. I’m going next week to see if anyone cancels. Gotta drive by there three days a week anyway…
