Well since "crazy conspiracy theorists" are like 22-0 being right.....
I wont allow alexa or anything else in the house and when talking about "private" things I leave my phone with the computer in another room. "crazy" right? Do this yourself, talk about something you've NEVER talked about before. (for me it was scuba diving in the mariannas trench) immediately I got ads for scuba diving (i dont scuba dive) vacation spots "close" to the mariannas trench, etc, etc.
Do not believe me, do it yourself, pick something you've never talked about and then watch the ads and various things change.

I unplugged my Alexa about 5 years ago when I found out that what you say is recorded, even if it was not directed to Alexa. I was then told that if you said "Alexa, delete everything you heard today", that cleared it. Then I heard it was also a setting you could do to clear daily talk that could be picked up. All this came about when I watched a Dateline show where the detectives solved a murder by obtaining recorded conversation from a house that had Alexa.

Or you could do what I did...I unplugged it long ago. Novelty wore off.

Exactly, never owned one and never will. Mother in law has one and can't figure out why she has been scammed for money twice so far this year and 5 times last year!! "Can't be related"...."what are you talking about"......"CNN said".. or "CBC said".....

The short period of time we hooked it up and tried using it, it made my wife so frustrated. She would ask Alexa a question on a stat for a sport, and Alexa would respond with "this is what I found..." and it was something about how many goats it took to produce goat cheese. She would then tell Alexa that she was stupid.

Promptly disconnected it and placed it in the closet.

Do not use Alexa myself, but I have a friend whose brother, a maker of fine cabinetry, suffered a traumatic brain injury on a job site. Alexa for him means he can still function since his memory is really bad. He can put food in the microwave, set the timer and tell Alexa to remind him to check the microwave in "X" number of minutes. Alexa reminds him to take his meds and of his appointments (morning of, various increments of time before he has to leave, etc.) and is amazingly helpful for him. Saves my friend from having to worry and watch over him. Keeps him independent. Just figured I'd add that to the conversation.

I do worry about my phone though, sometimes I'm on the text screen and I somehow inadvertently activate the dictation and it types out our conversation into a text bubble. This happened once with some pretty confidential stuff we were discussing, luckily I caught it. Scary.
