Looking at getting more clearance for front tires, I'd build a new lower control arm that swings the ball joint 1-2" forward with all else being the same. (basically straighten out the arm a bit) This would keep everything stock but move the centre line of the front tire an inch or so forward...

Nope, 38mpg Canadian which is 32mpg US. (4.54L per Can gallon, 3.89L per US gal) Set on eco and set cruise at 100km (62.5mph) some hills but pretty flat highway.
