I grew up driving semi's and other large vehicles. All we had in those days were the mirrors on the doors.

Exactly. Probably is a cut n paste error listed in the posted Recall notice for Bronco Sports . Also says only about 34k Bronco Sports are impacted.
I tried researching this but the only answer that comes up is the AI answer which I always take with a grain of salt. . Apparently the description of the software update is not an error. It is the name of the internal software version being updated, not the sync version that we see when we go into the sync information displayed on the touch screen.

Here is the AI explanation:

SYNC 3.2 R10 RC1 is not the exact same thing as the main SYNC version number you see displayed on your car's screen, such as "SYNC 3".

Here's a breakdown:

  • SYNC 3: This refers to the overall generation of the infotainment system.
  • Version Displayed on Screen: This number, like "3.0," "3.3," or "3.4," indicates the specific software version (or build) of that SYNC generation installed on your vehicle.
  • SYNC 3.2 R10 RC1: This is a more detailed internal identifier for a specific software release within the SYNC 3 generation. It likely represents a specific update or patch that addresses particular issues.
Analogy:

Think of it like this:

  • SYNC 3: Is like saying you have the latest operating system for your computer (e.g., Windows 11).
  • Version Displayed on Screen: Is like saying you have a specific version of Windows 11, like "Version 22H2."
  • SYNC 3.2 R10 RC1: Is like saying you have installed a specific update or service pack for that version of Windows, which includes specific fixes or features.
Why the difference?

Ford releases updates and revisions to their SYNC software regularly. These updates may target specific components or modules within the system. Therefore, a code like "SYNC 3.2 R10 RC1" is used internally to track these specific releases and updates.

Important:

  • If you see "SYNC 3.2 R10 RC1" mentioned, for instance, in the context of a recall, it means that specific software release is related to the issue being addressed.
  • To find the SYNC software version displayed on your car's screen, go to Settings > General > About SYNC.

Sync 3.4.22251 explains why there’s only ~34,500 affected vehicles

there’s early adopters and there’s about ~34,500 very late adopters of Sync 3.4.23188
