I will follow this thread as I'd be interested in how a winch could work on a BS..
They don't provide a lot of detail about how that "bumper bar" is attached to the vehicle other than to say it's "bolted to the subframe." Unfortunately, if you visit the Vivid Racing you won't find this product listed anywhere, so my guess is someone actually tried a recovery using the shackle or the winch on that bar and things didn't work out as planned.

As an aside, I got the heeby jeebies watching the technician at the beginning of the video grinding away on the pinch welds.

Slow and steady but this is what I've used and conveniently, it works on the front and rear, though it is heavy, it has a 5 star rating on Amazon. Also capable of a 3 point recovery, as it comes, once you get a tree saver strap to go with it. https://www.amazon.com/Ton-Ratchet-Puller-Amsteel-Blue/dp/B00455VCTY/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=Wyeth&qid=1674597513&sr=8-4

No need for fabrication, just be sure to pack it on the back when off roading! A smaller one could do it? 1 or 2 tons?

It's been probably a year ago since I was in Harbor Freight.. They had a reasonable priced winch and a mount with handles on it and a receiver hitch, I can't recall the price and weight rating, but recall thinking it would be plenty for a BS. Weighs about 80 pounds. Could carry it in the back unless you need it. Not ideal, but an option.

I have my spare on the roof so I use the space for recovery storage.
I have a shackle receiver for the rear and have the hooks up front. I have a bunch of straps, shackles, an 8k come along, snatch block, compressor, plus bunch other stuff. On my jeep I needed a dedicated winch. This for the few times I’ll need it works for me.
You could put a winch on the BL. But would have to fab almost a pull bar style plate out front and then mount a winch. So you’d add probs 60-80lbs or more out front.
That would suck without a complete suspension. The front already hits everything off-road without the weight
Would it suck any more than people who have the spare hanging off the back as far as they do?

Everything is a trade off.
It is. Even if a bumper was available it seemed like the weight was more the issue with the op. I still like the toolbox winch option that connects to the tow hooks with straps or go with someone. Besides a come along sounds like work lol.

Well… I guess nobody noticed that I suggested the Bush Winch way back on post #9 of this thread. :sunglasses:

On our beach trucks we use winches that just slide into the hitch receiver. The power cable gets wired in and the winch plugs into it so it can be easily removed. Probably the strongest point on a BS.

I did see it. But it comes from Australia so shipping could be expensive. You need to call as there is not a Bronco Sport option as of yet.

Like your user name....reference to the song back in the 60's? I used to call my VW Westy "magic bus".

I think if I was going someplace I thought I might need a winch I'd take one of these along.

Bush Winches are pretty cool devices but their biggest hang up is they can only be used for self recovery, where a typical vehicle winch can pull both you and the other guy that got stuck out.

A decent come along is good insurance, cheaper, and won’t rust away ruining your gas mileage, front suspension and brakes.
