On a windy day recently, I was driving on a narrow road with construction on the right (no shoulder) and oncoming traffic, when I saw a coax (cable TV) cable being blown right into my path immediately in front of me.

There was no option other than hitting it. It sounded really bad, but the damage is pretty minor -- it's mostly confined to the black trim piece next to the windshield on the driver's side A-pillar, and a small black mark on the fender.

Any pro tips for removing the insulation?

I would start with some bug/tar remover. Then you should be able to determine if you want/need to buff the paint.

Great suggestion, thanks!

Did you get a pic of the downed coax wire? The utility company covers the repair. At least here in Florida.

That's good to know, thanks!

No photo. It was a narrow road with construction on the right (no shoulder) and oncoming traffic. There was a sediment control fence just outside the white line. Just a bad spot.

I'll look into getting Comcast/Xfinity to pay, but they are one of the worst companies for customer service in America. Any interaction I've had with them has been negative. I may be pleasantly surprised, but my guess is that it'll be less time-consuming and stressful to remove the rubber insulation myself.

That's what utility companies bank on. I'd still pursue it, and report it to the public utilities commissioner in your county. Let the utility company know that too.
