Like others have stayed, it’s most likely the outdoor temperature and the car’s engine temperature. Mine has done the same now for several years.
My 2022 OBX has exhibited the same behavior since day one. Bugged me at first but not crazy about the auto start/stop feature anyway so just ignored it.

Mine just started working again after 2 months dead. 90 degree Arizona temp outside, Air Conditioning and stereo blasting. Mystery.

The auto start/stop messages give you an indication of why the auto start/stop has not engaged. There are several messages in the auto Stop/Start dashboard to indicate why the auto start/stop did not engage. You just need to select Auto Start/Stop in the message center where you select what appears on the center dashboard screen.
In my case the outside temperatures were in the 20's to 40's and the auto stop/start was not engaging. The auto start/stop message kept saying vehicle charging. In my post #7 I mentioned that after testing my EFB battery was not charging enough no matter how many miles I drove my BS each day. I kept the auto start/stop messages on the screen and the message never changed from vehicle charging. If auto start/stop was not engaging because of low temperature the system has other messages that it might display such as (paraphrasing) Outside temperature too low or Operating normally.
On my 2019 Edge with AGM battery that is about 2 1/2 years old and driving almost everyday the auto start/stop would still engage in these same temperatures although it might take something like driving 20 miles before it would engage. Once the dealer swapped my EFB battery for an AGM on my Bronco Sport this past January with temperatures still in the 20's the auto start/stop operated normally and would engage after as little as driving 3 miles.
If your auto start/stop has not been engaging in lower temperatures and the auto start/stop screen message does not change from vehicle charging even after driving almost every day more that short trips than I would suggest having the battery tested as it might be more than just low temperatures. Especially if you still have the EFB battery.
At least in the 24 owners manual the list of reasons posted in this and other threads as to why the auto start/stop might not engage is deleted from the manual. The 25 owners manual still does not have the list as posted. Instead it is the form of FAQ's.

Why does the engine not always stop when I expect it to?
The system is designed to work in a way that complements other vehicle systems, allowing them to operate at optimum performance.
The system does not stop the engine if:
• The driver door is open.

Can I permanently switch the system off?
No. The system plays an important role in reducing the fuel consumption and the CO2 emissions.
Will the frequent engine starts cause parts to wear out?
Your vehicle has an enhanced battery and starter motor that are designed for the increased number of engine starts.

This other "gizmo" you speak of is called AutoStop Eliminator. I had one installed in my 2023 Badlands, 5 min install, worked great. Have it for sale now as I no longer need it.

It’s alive!
So for the entire winter my engine auto stop/start wasn’t working for what I assumed was because of colder weather. Now we’re getting milder weather in the double digits (Celsius) and when I went out today the stop/start started working again on its own.

My BB's resurrection was fairly short-lived, perhaps 2-3 days, so I expect it is a battery issue.
I’m back to shutting mine off as the temperature is finally warming up.

For the driving I do around town here (Brockville, Ontario is not that big) the auto start/stop doesn’t bother me. But if I were going into a big city where bumper-to-bumper traffic is a thing or I faced that anywhere else I would definitely turn it off.
I feel the same. I’m just getting back into the habit of shutting it off when I start. If I forget, it’s normally not a huge deal.
