Aftermarket Exhaust for both 1.5 and 2.0

Recently I have seen several bronco sport owners ask questions about aftermarket exhaust systems. We have owned our sport for 11 months and have 21500 miles on it. There are three companies making the add on exhaust…all designed to give more of a throaty sound with out being a fake sound like when in sport mode. I went with the MBPR system like I have on my F150. It is about 1/3 the price of the other two. They claim an improvement in mileage as well…time will tell. The Chrome tips can be mounted for looks or for those of you that do trails or rock climbing They can be mounted high.

What's the actual attraction to modifying these little Bronco Sports so much? It's a friggin 3 or 4-cylinder and sounds even more gutless than stock with an exhaust. I can't wrap my head around it. Out of everyone that I've shown exhaust clips to, not a single person (car and truck guys included) sees a reason or thinks it sounds good.

I think people need to step back and realize what the hell these Bronco Sports really are.

But that's like...my opinion, man.

I agree, there is nothing like the V8 sound. Hence my moniker V8 Yankee. As I am now a owner of a ground pounding 1.5 liter BS it just seems wrong to use that name. My first car was a 62 Ford Galaxy with a 390 Thunderbird engine, since then probably had 20 cars and trucks with V8s. I'm Still trying to except the whole 3 cylinder thing but I3Yankee just doesn't sound right With that said I love this little beast.
That is my lead in to aftermarket exhaust. Now that Borla has a exhaust system and K&N has a cold air intake I'm going for it. Definitely not for sound but for increasing mpg and as a extra benefit power. I'll do a real life calculation of mpg once I install the package and maybe a timed 0 to 60 comparison before and after. The sound, well honestly it'll be just as pathetic as it is now just a few more decibels pathetic.

After a few months of going back and forth between several aftermarket systems and reading up on the subject of scavenging, pressure and material I decided to build my own system and saved myself hundreds doing it. The sound is awesome. Now I never expected much as I'm a V8 guy but I have to say for a 3 cylinder it trumps any of the 4 cylinder systems I have heard. I used 2X Vibrant Ultra Quiet, 1X Y, 3' pipe and 2X Ceramic coated tips. All 2.25 inches with a total cost of $325 and a hour of my time. I kept the OEM muffler in case I resell the BS, some people like stock but I'm sure anyone who heard my system will keep it. I would say the noise level inside is about 5 decibels more, low, deep and smooth and no drone! I may have gotten another mile of mpg but it's hard to confirm that, to many daily driving variables. All in all money well spent.
