Hi everyone! Last week I purchased my brand new 2023 Bronco Sport Outerbanks and after 6 days of ownership and under 500KM on it my poor bronco has already broken down. While driving on the highway a bunch of alerts came on including the following
  • pre- Collision assist not available
  • Hill Start Assist Warning
  • Blind Spot system fault
  • lane keeping system malfunction
  • Stability light came on
  • powertrain malfunction / reduced power
  • Auto Start Stop button was on but not functioning
I kept driving fine despite the alerts and after a couple of minutes my blind spot monitors came back but everything else malfunctioned. When i checked my ford pass app only the three attached alerts were on my app.

I made an appointment at the closest dealership to where i was (not the dealer i purchased from) and they ran tests etc. and told me they ordered me some new parts and said my car was safe to drive off the lot because it was just sensor errors and to come back next week to have them installed. I drove off of the lot and all the alerts came back (they said to expect that) and i went to go get gas because it was 111KM away from empty. I filled my tank and then when i got back in my car, it said no key detected and refused to start. I tried to start the car from my ford pass app and the car wouldn’t start and it also wouldn’t lock or unluck the doors. It appeared like my car wasn’t responding to my fob or my ford pass app. Still now my ford pass app hasn’t updated since friday (acknowledging the gas or its location) and i’m incredibly worried. The dealer was able to tow it back to the dealership and the guy said that my fob must have died. I’m just so confused, the car was only six days old, brand new from the dealer and it has more problems than the 18 year old Honda Pilot i was driving before i bought this one. Has anyone experienced something similar or have any advice? I would really really appreciate if. I’m both very upset and very worried.

Did they check your battery and all connections? What parts did they order?

They didn’t even tell me what parts unfortunately. They were all in a rush because they gave me my car back 5 minutes before they closed for the weekend so they weren’t able to run any more tests and i’ve had no updates since. They open on Monday and i’ve emailed the dealership I bought it from to get a solution from them too. A super crappy situation!

Are you driving the car around? How far away is the dealer you purchased from? I’d go back there Monday morning as soon as they open.

Nope not driving it. The car died at the gas station because it said my key wasn’t detected in the car so they had to tow it back to the dealership and gave me a rental. The dealer that has it is only 100KM away from me so only an hour drive but i don’t work or live near there and it makes more sense for me to wait to hear from them about my car as opposed to driving the rental all the way out there and being told it’s not ready or the parts haven’t arrived.

It’s probably the battery I had a similar thing happen to me. You need to get the dealership to switch your battery to an AGM one.

Put fob in center console. It resyncs it.

That didn’t work either! The service manager at the dealership couldn’t even resync it so he assumes it just completely died. I get an update from the dealer today so hopefully it’s a good one!

I’m having the same issue but at 16k miles. We drove to Biloxi, when we were about 5 miles from home on the return trip it kicked out of Sport mode to Normal, next light it came up with all the same errors you listed above. Now when vehicle cools off it acts normal, within an hour of driving it does same issues repeatedly. Have an appointment at dealership next Wednesday to address, along with the recalls needing repair.

Hey, I’m so sorry to hear this is happening to you. I bought a new OBX in Sept ā€˜22 that had been on order for 6 months, so I can imagine a little bit, how you must be feeling.

I did have a battery issue in my OBX in December 2022, when the temperatures were -10°c and below here. It just wouldn’t hold a charge. The dealership replaced the battery under warranty and I had no problems for the rest of the winter and since.

You are obviously covered under warranty, so once you have it back and all is well, try not to let this spoil your enjoyment of owning a Bronco Sport.

I hope everything is sorted out soon and you can just get on the with the experience of owning your brand new ride. ??

My dealer called me and said it was a shift module and sensor issue and the dead battery was caused by the dealership error when trying to fix it. I should have it back by this wednesday at the latest but that sounds like you may have the same issue as me! Hopefully you get your solution and it’s seamless!

Thanks a bunch! I’m hopeful this will be my only issue! So many love their BS and have no issues so i’m confident this is just a minor speed bump in my ownership. ???
