Wow how times have changed. When I was little, dad cut out the back seatbelts because they were annoying. When my kids were little we had what you now call booster seats and some rudimentary baby seats that fit in cars. Those things look like they are ready for a trip into space!

Back in my day we did backflips on the rear bench and moms catlike reflexes with her forearm were airbags of their day. Seatbelts on the FRONT seats were an option. My how times have changed. My sister had an escort and the front shoulder belt would move into position as you closed the door...and could be unclipped and unused if you wished

Yup, stood behind mom’s shoulder — nobody belted in, belts didn’t exist. Used the back seat like a trampoline ’til I got yelled at. Best of all was sitting in dad’s lap as he drove so I could shift the “three on a tree” like I was drivin’.
Glad I grew up before we had to be “safe” at all times.

Y’all forgot the best one. Stretching out in the rear window and waving to the cars behind.

thankfully im transitioning out of this phase.... we have the graco forever seat which transforms from the early stage to the booster....my one is almost to the booster right now...and the other is quickly gaining on that. which means more room and they can buckle themselves in!
my plans in a couple years is to get a 2dr full size bronco and not have to worry about any of these issues, the kids can just climb over the seats (or the back if the top is off) to get in....
i have the removable booster seats in the mustangs for those "sunday" drives when we take them.

fyi my carseat i used to have, but different color.. times have certainly changed....

I know the rear facing is positioned so you can take the carrier and go, but if you put it in the middle spot you can probably move the front seat further back. Easier for the passenger to turn around and attend to the infant while riding too. I imagine the front seat is riding up very far forward to accommodate that.
Congrats on finding a seat that completely complements the Badlands interior! That orange and grey looks made for the car.

Isnt it safest for the infant seat to be in the middle anyway?

Modern day safety issues are good. A far cry from what my parents and brothers and sisters experienced in the 60s/70s. Wooden board slats across the width of the VW bus so kids could lay down on long drives. Then no seat belts in station wagons as we all piled into the seats, sitting on top of each other. Maxed out a station wagon with one child between two parents in the front seat with 3yr old on Mom's lap, 5 kids in back seat and three kids in third row seat. Great family vacation as we drove across the country!!!

After a little research and a couple measurements I was able to fit three car seats in the rear seat. The infant seat is the chicco keyfit 30 and the forward facing seats are Grace tranzitions 3 in 1.

How do you get them all tied in? Aren’t the clips only on the outer seats?

Believe it or not, I remember being able to lay down in the space behind the back seat of my Uncle’s VW Beetle. Now, I may not have been fully stretched out, but it’s still there in my memory. I also remember having to push up a stool to reach a light switch on the wall.

The middle seat has a shoulder strap seat belt as well and the tether hook behind the two forward facing seats
