My wife had come home from the store and the engine shut down as soon as she pulled in the driveway with a message that said use alternative source and there was smoke pouring out of the front. We managed to get it into the garage and called the dealership to have it towed. This was on a Friday and they weren’t able to diagnose the issue until the following Tuesday.

The dealership called us and informed us the AC compressor completely came apart internally sending shards of metal through the system causing the belt to start slipping and burn up, causing all the smoke, and they did not have the parts on hand. We called them back on Thursday and we were informed they wouldn’t have access to the parts until the end of the month. They said there was a parts shortage according to our service advisor. The good news is they gave us a 2024 BS OBX to drive while ours is in the shop. It is also missing all the parts our Badlands was when we got it. So it’s going to take them about a month to fix it.

Our Badlands has only 9k on it. We live in Phoenix and are both retired now so we don’t drive it constantly. It has been very pampered and cared for. I am a bit disappointed but hopefully they will be able to repair it to a satisfactory level. We are thinking of trading it in on a truck in the near future and probably stay away from the brand for awhile.

UPDATE SEPT 25: The parts we were supposed to get for our Bronco Sport shippied on Sept 18th. A Ford rep called us on Sept 24th and told us our parts were shipped to a different dealership and given to someone else and they had no idea when we would get ours. I think they should pull the parts from one on the lot and fix ours and let them worry about fixing theirs or give us a new Bronco? I don’t like making payments on a car I can’t utilize. God knows what kind of damage it will incur sitting there for so long. The good news is we have a loaner to use. We are really trying hard to stay positive but in my mind I have decided to trade it in on a pickup. Lol

The good news here is that you have a loaner from the dealership, so no hardship in the way of not having a vehicle while waiting on parts.

Who is the dealership? kudos to them; they deserve it.

More mismanagement from Ford. Why don't dealers have common replacement parts in stock? They will blame it on suppliers, but they choose to use suppliers rather than vertical integration as they used to do. Probably impossilbe to go back. But they choose suppliers and decide how many parts they order for dealer use.

Glad you were given a loaner. At 16000 miles my 21 First Edition had to have the AC compressor replaced because it shut the vehicle down on the freeway 50 miles from home. It took over a month to repair. The loaner made the experience more tolerable because a rental would have been expensive and 65 miles away.

It's not just Ford.
My sister's '19 Jeep also had an AC compressor failure and Jeep can't even tell her when they will get the parts in. The car's been at the dealer for about a month already. The good news is that her family doesn't need the car right now, as they have another vehicle.

The way everything is integrated into all new cars now seems to be the biggest problem. Gone are the days when, if something broke, you could just quit using it and drive the car . . . fixing it when you got to it.
