Hi all,


I have a coolant smell coming from the hood running or not. No Leaks, No Overheating

What could this possibly be?

I have my dealership picking her up on Tuesday to resolve it

wonder if anyone else had this issue

My guess would be the water pump (slow leak). It also could be another issue, but the pump seems to be the most common. Many owners (including myself) have had the same issue. Cheers!

If you smell coolant there is a leak. It may not be enough to puddle on the floor, but there's a leak.

Or someone added coolant recently and spilled some outside the reservoir. Which might imply a leak, or people have been known to over fill their reservoirs.

If coolant was spilled it will burn off or dry up eventually.

This may be a new BS and the dealer was topping off fluids and spilled some. OP doesn’t say.

Best keep an eye on the level until dealer checks it.

As a 22' Big Bend owner myself, I had no visible leaks and no overheating. I was going to clean out the winter leaves that may have ended up under the hood and that's when I visibly noticed the coolant level was way below the mark, my vehicle didn't have any alerts whatsoever . I called my dealership and they sent out a technician with coolant and they drove the car to the dealership and by 1pm the next day they valet drove my vehicle back to my house with a new water pump installed, unfortunately it sounds like you may be headed in that direction.

UPDATE:

new water pump was installed still under warranty, and the smell is gone
