So it happened. My 2022 Bronco Sport BB started to make a shudder and chattering noise on the RDU. My wife noticed it a couple of days ago. Thought it was the parking brakes grinding or rubbing against the discs and making the noise because of some surface rust on the discs due to the weather down here in the tropics. However, this morning when pulling out of the garage the shudder was stronger and could even feel the BS being hold when pulling out the ramp and fully turning to the right. You can hear the shudder and nosie on the short video uploaded. Made an appointment with the local dealer to check it out and see if they can replace the RDU fluid as stated by Ford's TSB. My car only has 10K miles or 16K km. Hopefully the issue is solved with the fluid change ? will post another video when the problem is solved. If you start hearing something similar, better take it to the the dealer. My car is still under warranty.

Any chance that water and debris got pulled into the RDU vent hose? 10k miles is super low mileage for RDU issues.

Never crossed any water bodies with the Bronco Sport. Not sure if there would be an issue with vent hose. Are they too short or low positioned?

Apparently are both short and don’t prevent water and debris intrusion the way they are designed. I don’t know when the factory began to install the redesigned RDU Vent tube.

Update: issue solved. The dealer replaced the RDU fluid and added a friction modifier. Also reprogrammed the PCM module for the battery campaign. Told me it was the first unit they received doing such noise at that very low mileage. Will post an updated video with the noise gone later! Thanks everyone for the help provided!

I had to have my RDU replaced before 40K, the new and approved vent hose too. It started shuddering around 30K and got so bad it was a matter of time until it was totally undriveable. The Ford mechanic said the oil was good, not a hose issue. Although the vent hose might be an issue for some failures it is more of a design and/or mechanical failure.

In some cases it could also be a driver caused failure by using a GOAT Mode that should not be used on pavement unless it is snow or ice covered. Even using Slippery/Sand Modes on wet pavement will have detrimental effects. In my case I never used anything other than Normal or Eco Mode and still it failed.

It would be nice to know the rate of failure as we only hear about it on sites like this. In reality it could be less than 2 or 3% failure rates, maybe even lower. Still that is no comfort to anyone who has to deal with it and definintely not a good selling point if you hear that your BS has a 3% failure rate. This is something nobody wants to deal with and if Ford is listening take note. At least Ford did make it right in my case but now that this model has been out for 4 years the warranties are getting close to expiration. After the 5/60 Powertrain warranty expires people are out of luck and looking at 4K plus to fix, and massive inconvienance as well. Good luck on yours and enjoy, hope they make it right for you.

So this is the updated video after the rear diff fluid and friction modifiers were used. No more shudder or chattering. A huge difference when compared to the previous video. Thanks for the heads up and help provided!

So, today, got issues again with the RDU. Returning home, all of the sudden got a message that stated selected goat mode not available, hill assist dissabled, 4WD service, precollision dissabled, etc... Made it to the garage. Turned off the car and restarted, everything seemed normal, until I tried selecting a goat mode, got the same error message, the yellow wrench lighted up on my display as well as weird symbol that had like a rear of the BS with a yellow spiral. Took it to the dealer, they started the vehicle and nothing came up on display. Will wait until tomorrow to see if they can pull out any code. No weird noises nor anything since the RDU fluid replacement. Could it be a loose or faulty connector?

Some have reported similar symptoms that were ultimately traced back to a bad batteries and faulty gear selectors.

Got the BS back from the dealer today. Issue is a faulty RDU actuator. They told me its covered by warranty and in the meanwhile I can't use any goat mode. There is a TSB for some of these units. Code from the dealer says they got a low voltage reading from the actuator on the RDU. Special part ordered to factory. Need to wait up to 25 business days for it to be delivered. Checked on certain websites on the US and the RDU appears as a single part however the RDU is sold as an entire unit.
TSB is SSM 51117 for reference and it seems to affect some 2019-2022 ford vehicles including the Bronco Sport
