2021 BS 1.5L engine options

I picked up a 2021 BS Outer Banks with 146k miles. It needs an engine replacement. I have found a 1.5L out of a 2024 with 6000 miles. I am seeing mixed information if that engine is a drop in replacement. It come with everything except for the wiring harness and ecm.

Does it come with the transmission as well?
I would be cautious about putting a low mileage engine with a high mileage transmission as the transmissions aren't very robust and if it started having problems after the engine swap you'd have to tear it apart again and reassemble.

The change to the MPC engine for the Bronco Sport started for the 2025 model year.

It's likely any year engine before 2025 should work for the swap.

Trans was replaced by the previous owner at 120k miles so has less then 30k on it. I'm all in for only 1500$ right now so there's room to replace thins as they die.

That's good for you, if the trans did have 146k miles that would have been a potential red flag.

I'm not a tech. I know a thing or two about certain things, but not sure on this and would hate to assume. I'm inclined to say yes, but I can find out tomorrow with certainty.

That would be great I think it would work but I am seeing some info that 21-22 is a direct sswap and then 23 to 24 is year specific.

Below is the response from a veteran heavy line Ford tech:

I honestly don't know. There were some changes, but I'm not sure if it's anything significant enough to not make the swap work.

The big changes didn't happen until 25MY. After build date 11/11/24, they changed a lot including the block.

So it should work. If the engine is coming off of a 2024, chances are that is was built before that date. If you can get me the VIN of the BS the engine came out of, I can check to confirm.

Not sure why it doesn't show the engine calibration for yours, but also not sure how relevant that is. Engine type is the same.

I just looked through the ab data and it does not seem like the VIN is stored in the PCM. You should be able to use the same one in your current vehicle.

I still can't say it will 100% work without a shadow of a doubt, but on the surface, it looks like it will.

Here is today's progress I got about 3 hours of work in. Decided to go out the front as i dont have a lift. is the unhealthy sound current engine is making.
