The TFL guys take their full-sized Bronco and a Bronco Sport Sasquatch on some easy to medium trails and compare. I don't think there are any surprises, but as usual, it seems like the BS punches above its weight.

I've got a BS Sasquatch. It's a matter of ground clearance. The BS is shorter, a bit narrower which can make a big difference in certain situations. I've been able squeeze my rig through some tight spaces (with a few scrapes)...but I'm thinking about a lift kit.

The ground clearance is the biggest issue but lifting it really doesn’t help much if you already have a Badlands in my opinion. It is what it is. It’s a great utility vehicle that can go off road provided the terrain doesn’t get to crazy. The length is about the same as my 2 door. I don’t really notice the width being an issue either way. I sure there are cases a few inches will help but most problems are with pinstriping and not with rock formations but trees.

Given a stock ā€˜21 BS Badlands made it up Hell’s Gate, I’m not sure that there’s much it can’t handle that most other stock rigs can. Sure, it’s not what I’d call a good platform for building a rock crawler from, but don’t shortchange it.

Hell’s gate isn’t really a clearance obstacle. Granted, it’s not a forest road but it’s not considered a high clearance obstacle. It’s way more mentally challenging than anything with the deep vee notch. There’s been plenty of vehicles that have made it up that with probably less clearance than the Sport. A Kia Sorento and a Cybertruck have made it up stock as has a Porsche SUV. Again, not dismissing the Sport, but a high clearance vehicle it’s not.

The Moab slip rock is also your friend. This is a case where the Badlands lockers are also your friend. Again, not being dismissive regarding the Sport at all. My biggest complaint is the lack of clearance and adding 1-1/2 inches really doesn’t cut it for a lot of the trails out west. Even the Rubicon is becoming a challenge now with a vehicle with 35’s.

I had a friend back in the 70’s take his really nice ā€˜69 Camaro Z-28 back on the off road area. He made it pretty far before getting high centered. I’m sure alcohol had no influence on that decision! And that was back in the day when 31ā€ tires were considered large. Once people moved to 33’s and 35’s, those trails became impossible even for many vehicles. It’s even worse now with 37’s and 40’s becoming more popular with those out west.
