“Finally”… a correction for Rear Brake Moan Noise

Finally is in quotes because need to verify this Bulletin corrects the Rear Brake Moan Noise as stated in the Bulletin.

Has anyone had this Service Procedure done and if so what were the results?

If this is indeed a new TSB, the NHTSA has not updated its website with the new document yet.

The caliper bushings are location dependent so its questionable if all the service techs actually do the repair correctly. My guess some do some don't.

But sounds like Ford is working on a good fix. Just like Manual Park Release Cable there were two revisions. I installed latest revised cable in mine silent zero noise none....so that issue Ford got that one fully resolved....

Kit contains: 2 guide pins, 2 guide pin
Caliper caps, 1 standard bushing 1 reinforced bushing

are you referring to the locations for the standard bushing vs the reinforced bushing?

Step 13 in the PDF refers to the standard bushing so that seems clear.

Step 3 refers to bushing but I’m guessing means the reinforced bushing part but IDK

With previous TSB one bushing goes on top and one on bottom so they were location dependent. Saw a Ford tech do a youtube on the correct repair.. One bushing tech really struggle to get into place.

The kit also includes new caliper springs, which are meant to pull the pads back off the rotor when the driver releases the brakes. The noise is a resonation created by friction between the pads and rotors, so it's possible this kit includes stronger springs to reduce that friction. I'd be interested to see of the new springs are stronger than the OE springs.

I had the first round done. It fixed it for the most part but occasionally it will still do it.

I was able to schedule this service for 16 Feb 2024 (dealer is booked out and short-staffed, like everyone I guess). I'm hopeful.

Note: The dealer alerted me that this a technical service bulletin, not a recall. So, you want to be sure it is covered by warranty (mileage & time dependent) or else you will pay yourself. Ford does not consider this a problem they need to fix.

I've got a Jan 19 date to have this done. Still under warranty (though beyond my mileage) because the original attempt to fix it under warranty didn't work, ie. the older TSB.

I'll report back with results in a couple weeks.

Just had my "22 BSOB in for a PA state inspection. Talked to service writer about rear brake noise, having had them try various fixes over the past two years. I mentioned TSB 23-2308 and his reply was that it "doesn't work."

Don't know if he was blowing smoke, but he went on to tell me that the problem is not the bushings but the brake disks. Ford requires semi-metallic disks. Due to a copper shortage, brake manufactures are struggling to make semi-metallics. He said that all auto manufactures are having this supply problem. He then said that installing ceramic disks would stop the noise but Ford won't authorize it to be done. So, if you want to fix the noise problem, you'll have to spend $200+ for ceramic brakes.

Suggest u tell them to do that TSB regardless

Works for some but not all .. maybe you will be one of those it works for
