The major fix is it properly clears the rwdata partition. Every time you plug your iPhone in to use CarPlay, files are created and stored in the rwdata partition on the APIM. When this fills up all kinds of issues occur.
The engine in the vehicle should be running during the entire update process. The message is telling you to stop the engine, open the drivers door, close the drivers door, lock the door, wait 2 minutes and restart the engine.
Keep the USB flash drive in the port. Follow instructions.
Clear the cache and history from your browser and use the link at the beginning of this thread to check for Sync updates.
You will need to do a soft reset on your vehicle.
