I ripped the carpet "skid plate" off my BL the first time I went off road. Underneath that are fuel lines (I believe for the evaporator). I put on a skid plate.
With limited clearance and rutted roads, I was often scraping on the center of the road. I decided that a skid for the catalytic converter was a good idea.
An old roommate of mine was driving his Datsun 510 on a rocky road, and he kept repeating the mantra his father had taught him, " Let the tires take the beating". Still pretty good advice.
