A wet one, to be sure, so much of the day plan was tossed. We lucked out on timing the weather, though, so it wasn’t a complete washout.
After the complimentary breakfast at the Residence Inn (and in the name of all that is holy, avoid the vegetarian chorizo) we gassed up and headed up US 180, and had the road pretty much to ourselves.
An urgent bio break at the junction with AZ 64, we arrived at the entrance to the park on short order. My lifetime National Park Pass has already saved about $100 in fees this trip. Definitely worthwhile if you plan to visit National Parks and Monuments.
My first view of the Grand Canyon, not from 30,000 feet:
Being a law-abiding person, I definitely did not approach this park resident. He approached me. I admonished him and lodged a complaint with the rangers:
The weather was crap the whole day with only brief gaps. Fun to watch, lousy to photograph in. I did, however, commemorate the Sasquatch’s first foray into the wild:
