Just went to the web site for the wheels and for my silver BL I think I would like the Gunmetal RR5-S better. Where did you buy the wheels from? Both wheels have a good load rating of 2100 lbs. Better than most of the wheels I've been looking at.

Shoutout to the guys at The Custom Shop AZ (@ Sanderson Ford in Glendale, AZ) for knocking out our 1.3” Billet Lift Kit from RTR Vehicles, 17x8 RR5-V Matte Black Wheels from Relations Race Wheels and mounting and balancing the 245/70 R17 BFG All-Terrains!

My wife and I love her Bronco Sport Badlands. Stoked on the way it turned out and can’t wait to hit the trails with it being just that much more capable.

What’s your thoughts on your size tires fitting on a first edition without a added lift ?

A lift does not affect the size of tire you can fit, unless you never plan on your suspension fully articulating. At least not with the spacer-lifts we have available right now.

No disrespect to Meanderthal, but it sure looks like I can fit a much larger tire after leveling kit was installed. What do others think could fit here?

No offense taken, but what size is that much bigger tire? Second question is why are you running Blizzaks in June in Denver?

The tire fitting issue is not about just putting it on the vehicle and driving around town. The rubbing happens when the suspension is compressed and the steering wheel is turned. Those two things have to happen at the same time and to the extreme. Mostly this would happen in an off-road scenario but could happen in town if you are making a hard/fast turn and run through a dip at an intersection (or similar) as an example.

The safe max tire size for the BS is 29.5” (or really somewhere between 29.5” and 30”). For a 17” wheel that is 245/65/17 and for an 18” wheel that is 245/60/18.

There are other factors that could make a 29.5” tire rub. One would be lower wheel offset (or adding a spacer). This pushes the tire closer to the inner fender when the wheel is turned because it is turning on a longer radius.

It can even be affected by the actual tire you choose. As some tires have a more square shoulder than others, KO2s have a really square shoulder but still seem to work in the 29.5 sizes on the BS. The numbers that define the size are standards but the actual sizing is a little fuzzy. A 245 width could be anywhere from 240 to 250 (+/- 5mm). I haven’t read anything about the profile percentage being as fuzzy as the width though. So, a 245 tire that trends larger will also trend taller. You can see this in Tire Racks details of tires because they list the revolutions per mile. If you lookup several different brands of the same size tire you will see varying numbers for revolutions per mile, meaning that some are a little larger than 29.5 and others a little smaller.

Unfortunately this isn’t all as simple as just looking at the numbers on the tire. But it does seem that 29.5” (245/65/17 and 245/60/18) are the safe maximum sizes for the BS. If you want to dig deeper, choose the tire carefully, and only drive cautiously then you can run a bigger tire.

After typing all of that, I haven’t even addressed the “leveling kit” part of the scenario. In reality, the leveling/lift kit only changes the point at which any rubbing would occur. The wheel/tire still has to travel into the wheel well when the suspension is compressed and the wheel is turned. Again, if the suspension isn’t compressed at the same time the wheel is turned (or vice versa), then you can run a bigger tire.

If you run a much bigger lift (which I don’t think is currently an option for BS) and the wheel/tire really never comes fully into the wheel well any longer because of it, then you can run huge tires. The rubbing point on the BS is the back side of the wheel well and near the bottom. So, if the center of the wheel is within the wheel well and the steering is near full lock, you are in a situation where the rubbing could happen. All of the currently available lift kits for the BS will allow the wheel to be in the center of the wheel well.

It’s very kind of you to take the time for the detailed response, thank you. I am in Summit County 3 days per week, where we received more than 2 feet of snow about 10 days ago, so yea I am a bit tardy to swap rubber, but not by much :)

I’ll take the above under advisement for sure, as I don’t want to set myself up for rubbing. I don’t do much off-roading…camping trails here and there. Mainly, I’m shooting for a larger and more rugged aesthetic, and hopefully a tire that has a solid winter rating but is still serviceable for all 4 seasons.

I was able to fit 245/60R18 and no issues (so far). Granted, I’ve only driven this setup 100 miles in ideal weather and just a tad on an even dirt road.

You should not have any rubbing issues with a 245/60/18. The one issue with wider tires is the potential for hydro planing, so be cautious in heavy rains. If you are going to switch to a snow tire in the winter, you’ll want to look for something narrower but still a similar diameter (29.5”). Looks like 215/65/18 or 205/70/18 would be good choices. A narrow winter tire will cut into the deep snow and slush down to the pavement and get you traction.

I run a 235 on my Golf R in the summer and a 205 in the winter and it works amazingly well.

If you go from 235's to 245's does the speedometer need to be re-calibrated? It might show that you're going slower than you actually are.
