Anyone have visibility on a current constraints list?
Everything electronic!

This information came out of the National Auto Dealers Association Show in Las Vegas on Saturday, where Ford executives spoke during a meeting of the company’s franchised dealers.

Ford will ship and sell vehicles without chips controlling non-safety critical features

Ford executives told dealers the company would provide the missing parts for dealers to install within one year.

LAS VEGAS -- Ford Motor Co., attempting to ease inventory constraints, plans to ship and sell partially built vehicles that are awaiting semiconductors or related components that control non-safety critical features, executives told dealers in a meeting Saturday, according to three people present.

The plan is a revision of an idea floated in July where Ford considered shipping partially-built vehicles to dealers to sit on their lots until parts became available. Now, according to the people, the partially-built vehicles Ford will send dealers will be both drivable and sellable.

Ford said it would send the necessary chips within one year for dealers to install in the sold products, the people said.

It was not immediately clear when it would start shipping and selling the partially-built vehicles or what models would be included in the plan.

A Ford spokesman was not immediately available to comment on the plan.

The automaker has been attempting to find ways to ease the glut of unfinished vehicles piling up on lots around its manufacturing plants. Most recently, what appeared to be hundreds if not thousands of Broncos were piling up in Michigan. Ford said the backlog was chip-related and that it planned to ship those vehicles within three months, pending parts availability.

The ongoing chip shortage has forced a number of automakers to remove certain features to accelerate deliveries to customers.

General Motors late last year said it would remove popular features like heated seats from much of its lineup, later saying customers who ordered vehicles missing that feature could have it added at a later date.

Yeah, I saw that yesterday. Patience I guess. Or resignation to the torture of waiting...in ignorance, which to me is the cruelest way to wait.

Does anyone have experience changing their order once it has been submitted? I don’t like Cactus Gray as much now that I saw it in person on a BS and want to change to Area 51.
I ordered area 51 and wanted to change to cactus grey. But, I was a little late as I went back and forth for weeks. I asked to change the color but my OB was already in production and was told it was too late for changes. It was actually built that same day! ?

Mine was ordered 1/15/22. I only found out the order confirmation last week when I called Ford myself. turned out the dealer never put in my email address to the order so Ford didn't send me anything. I called the dealer I ordered from and ask them to put that info in. I'm not sure if they ever did. they said just call them to find out.

well, I think I will call Ford next month and see the status.

I also got the Badlands with premium package, moon roof, tow, cargo mgmt and co-pilot360. it is in Cyber Orange color. we will see when will it will be the build date and eventually to delivery.

update....still no email from Ford. I tried to look into to see if i can sign up for the Off-Roadeo in Moab but the system said they can't find my order last week. I called Ford, they confirmed I have an order but no other update.

I think I've read others have gotten a build date ordered after 1/15/22. Is it because I have the sunroof and 360 options?? ....I'll wait another couple of weeks to see what would happen. I've found out a Toyota dealer here will do MSRP. Maybe a 4Runner is an option. I heard they tell you 6 months wait but people gotten theirs in 2 months. then again...that maybe different when I order mine.

My mom just got a 2022 Chevy Equinox, built without the chip for heated seats. She said the dealer told her when the chip is available they'll call her and she'll take it in to have it installed no problem.

IMO I think its a good idea for Ford to do something similar. I personally wouldn't mind missing a feature or two for a bit if it means I'd get my vehicle sooner. Frankly they should've considered this last year when things were getting rough.

Don't know what to tell you or think, there seems to be no pattern based on various threads. Placed an order 12/13 and received a confirmation from Ford, went back to dealer to get the order number, but that's it. Have read where people with similar orders placed well after mine have received vins, build dates, and even deliveries.

Same for me, I have been driving my Outlander Sport with a check engine light on for quite some time. Nothing major but not worth spending 1-2k in repairs. I am hoping it holds out but I am barely driving - it only once a week if I can.
