My wife was leaving in our BSBL to go pick our kid up from school today and she said when she shifted into drive she got a loud hard “thunk” into gear. Pulled out of the driveway and it didn’t want to go then all the sudden took off like normal then slowed down again. She decided she couldn’t drive it so stopped and put it in reverse, but it wouldn’t go into reverse. She went forward and found a place to turn around and got it back to the house.

When I got home from work I took it for a ride. It shifted into reverse like normal for me, pulled out into the road and it seemed fine, then it fell on its face, barely moving, then took off like a rocket until it needed to shift to the next gear, then fell in its face again. First stop sign I came too, it didn’t want to move from a stop, giving steady light throttle it SLAMMED into gear and started moving again. It does this at every stop. If you can get it up to 40ish mph it seems ok for the most part.

It’s going back to the dealer this afternoon. This will be the second issue we have had. The day after we picked it up in January the engine light came on. Turned out to be a bad oxygen sensor that was replaced last week. I thought that was going to be the one “big” issue we were going to have with our new BS but apparently I was wrong. The excitement of a new vehicle is officially gone for both my wife and I.

Will update when I find out more.

Dang that is not cool. Just curious if y’all use the auto hold mode? I do and have noticed kinda hard take offs lately. Hope y’all get it fixed quick

No we do not. Funny thing is it has been absolutely perfect since we got it. No funny noises, no bumps or thumps. Granted it only has 888 miles. Even the bad oxygen didn’t cause drivability issues, just bad gas mileage.

My wife took our son to school in it this morning and everything was normal. Started it to go pick him up and it was fubar.

Small Update…. I drove it to the dealership this evening. When I put it in drive leaving the house, it “harshly” shifted into gear. During the drive the PCM seemed to start figuring itself out. The problem seems to be isolated to 1st and 2nd gear. Coming to a stop now, it will not shift below 3rd. Pulling out in 3rd is a challenge, but I got it there. The harsh shifting went away for the most part.

that's a bummer of a story, sorry to hear and hope it all gets figured out. Just curious, did you try any of the other goat modes?

No, only normal mode. I did drive it in manual. Wouldn’t shift below 3rd or above 6th.

That thought crossed my mind. Quite honestly, I’ve never had one of my vehicles towed, I’m not sure who I would call. But then I thought screw it, if they want to give me crap about a vehicle that’s less than 2 months old with less than 1000 miles then I’ve got bigger problems than a screwy transmission.

New Ford vehicles include roadside assistance for 5 years/60,000 miles. They should be able to help you out with transport to the dealer to look into this issue under warranty.

TOWING ASSISTANCE

GET BACK ON THE ROAD
As long as your vehicle is within 100 feet of a road, we’ll pull it out and, if necessary, tow it to at Ford dealership.

If it was an old school transmission I'd say it was low on fluid.

The speed sensor code seems the most likely as good indicator. If trans speed does not match expected wheel speed all sorts of things can happen as the computer tries to figure out what to do.

It definitely could be low on fluid. There have been a few reports of new f150 that ended up a couple of quarts low from the factory that were shifting harshly but nothing like whats mentioned here. My bet is on the trans valve body Having a sticky valve.

In the Ford pass app service page is a roadside assistance, anything from fuel to look out, collision and winch out too.

Hey, Flash3x! I would like to look into this Powertrain issue you’re experiencing with your Bronco. Could you please send over a private message with your VIN, mileage, and the name/location of your local Ford dealer?

Update…

Dealer looked at it this morning. They called and updated my wife, I didn’t get to speak with them. They told her they found water in a shift solenoid. Dried it out and took it for a ride and found it was operating normal again. They stated there was some corrosion inside so they ordered a new solenoid. Should be in and installed tomorrow.

Seems odd to me that the transmission would have external shift solenoids but I guess I’ll take their word for it. Can anybody confirm that?

How did water get into the solenoid?
That's what I'd want to know.

I have 23 years of experience with larger rear wheel drive transmissions and more than a table spoon of water in one of them is over the allowed limit. I would guess the allowed amount would be less in yours. If I were you I would really want to understand if this shift solenoid is internal or not. Water over the allowed amount can cause issue with the backing on the fiber plates leading to early failure.

Good Luck
