Dude, many different 'off road' vehicles have it.
That's true, but every vehicle is different. I acknowledge I'm just speculating, but here's my thought process:

I don't know what (if any) design tradeoffs we're made on the Bronco Sport, but there are almost always some. No endeavor is more given to tradeoffs than automobile design. A big clue for me is the 100 lb limitation for dynamic rooftop loads. That tells me this vehicle is top heavy. What would the dynamic load limit be if you added the weight of liftgate motors and the associated support structure up there?

The designers chose to give the Bronco Sport a safari-style roof, and it definitely looks cool, but it puts weight higher up than cars without them. And this could certainly affect other design choices that tend to raise the center of gravity.

At least that's what I think. Dude.

So it's strictly power? That sucks.
Now if only the USB in the center console was actually hooked up to the sync unit.
The manual makes it sound like any of the USB ports will connect the phone for music. Unless I misunderstood your comment. It doesn’t specify any one particular USB port.

The USB port allows you to plug in media playing devices, memory sticks and charge devices.

Locating the USB Ports
The USB ports may be in the following locations:
  • Inside the media bin.
  • Inside the center console.
  • On the rear of the center console.
Apple CarPlay
Connect your device to a USB port.
Follow the instructions on the touchscreen.

Android Auto
Connect your device to a USB port.
Follow the instructions on the touchscreen.

Just clowning around and noticed that there's now USB a and c ports in the back passenger area, whereas there was only the 110v previously. No idea if this is on all 2022s, but it's in mine!
What's inside the console armrest? Did they add plugs or move plugs?

Omg I didn’t even realize they did this. It still shows the temp in the dial in the build and price. I was actually really excited to have a smart AC/Heat unit in my car for once. Super disappointing. At least now I’m prepared for the disappointment ?. Although I’ll probably never adjust it once I have it dialed in anyways.
It's still a smart system, the temperature (or temperatures if a dual-zone system) show up on the touchscreen where they belong, so you don't have to look down.

The console USBs are strictly power. The only hook up to the sync unit are the USB on the dash.

It's not a huge deal but I was pretty bummed when I found out. I wanted to put a USB stick in the console loaded with MP3s.

I know it just looked smarter with the display built in. Gave it that luxury appeal. Looks like you can just voice control the temp so that’s good enough I suppose..

My '21 built in June has both USB inside the console as well as outside in the back seat area along side the 110v plug.

To each their own. IMO it looks dumber with 1980's digital boombox/alarm clock technology. I don't think we're too many years away from the knobs and buttons for climate control disappearing altogether and running everything through the center screen.

You know I hadn’t thought about it that way. Glass half full ?

That's cool of them to add instead of just change. I was a little bummed when I didn't have easy USB for the rear and then I decided it was NBD to just plug a 110 usb adapter into the plug for the occasional rear passenger device charging. I got a 4 port adapter that does USB B and C and Fast charge ports from Big Rainforest for under $15. Similar to this:
Ford Bronco Sport 2022 Badlands w/premium package now includes USB A and C ports in rear passenger area 7128_larg

By the way, for home DIY'ers. Just like the Homelink equipped visors with a GDO that just plug and play; The rear console panel with the 110V and USB together is available from Ford parts site. Worst case you might have to tap a line to get the USB working because the 12v line probably isn't there in the non-equipped builds. Alternatively, someone could Dremel a hole and add a USB and/or 12v port there. There is a lot of space inside the console. Somewhere I posted pics of my exploratory dig into there.

For the truly adventurous, that want Sync enabled ports elsewhere, I have seen first hand that the USB ports on the front console are actually female-to-female adapters built into the console body. There is a regular USB cable in a very weird dedicated connection assembly on the front. The USB-B one is actually a MINI connector, not a MICRO. I think with clever cabling you could either re-route or duplicate the ports to the ones inside the console. Technically a USB Y-cable is prohibited by USB standards, so it may or may not work that way. I'm sure at the very least, you could swap and make the in-console ports Sync-able and the front ports power only. You would have to really, really hate having the Sync ports up front to do that.

Well, if (as I'm still awaiting transport. Yay!) it's the same setup as the Corsair, then yes - there's a standard USB mini port on the APIM "box". Of course, there's 12V available in spots, so a powered USB hub "could" be fitted...
*sigh - planned mods list embiggens*
