Enlighten me on how I can gauge my speed with fake V8 sounds piped through the sound system instead of the speedometer. The sounds are merely for entertainment. That's fine, but they should have enabled a defeat option.
So while my brain might be able to gauge RPMs from that sound, I'm not sure how my brain is going to know what gear I'm in so I can make any use of the information.

I don't think I will be bothered by the fake engine noise. I'll pull the fuse if it does. As for the garage door opener, I don't use the built in one I have. I clipped a dongle to the visor. One button is as good as another. Now as to the power lift gate. I will be glad to see it go when I trade in my 2014 Escape. After over 6 years of fighting with it, good riddance. It won't come down when the wind is blowing hard from the rear, sometimes just beeps at me when I push the button to put it down, and don't get me started on getting hit on the head If I accidently get my foot to close to the back end while loading or unloading. Also hooking up a trailer without it coming up at you. From what I've seen in the videos the lift gate on the Bronco is set up to open very easy. Give it a little push and it goes the rest of the way by itself. After 71+years, I've learned the nitpicking something to death is counterproductive. Life is too short for that.

I’ll try..

At a constant speed, the engine will make a constant noise, when it slows down, the frequency of the noise becomes lower. When it speeds up the frequency becomes higher.

When a generator has load applied, then engine speed goes down and when it has load removed it goes up and you can hear the effect. In a car you can also hear the effect, especially from the exhaust tail pipe (or in this disappointing case, the speakers ?)which will be come much louder at higher speeds as the flow of exhaust gas speeds up.

you can defeat by pulling a fuse.
Thanks for the clarification, that makes sense. The sound is tied to the engine speed (tachometer) rather than the speedometer. That's what had me and probably magicbus puzzled, as you originally indicated speedometer (vehicle speed). That would require correlation of engine RPM and gear ratios to calculate.

Which, raises the question, is the "virtual engine sound" tied to vehicle speed or engine speed? I suppose they could have programmed it either way.

lol maybe geniuses will benefit from this feature more but still it will help estimate speed not precisely identify it
Still have to disagree. If it sounds like the RPMs are at 4000 my SPEED will be a whole lot different if I’m in 1st or if I’m in 8th (or whatever the high gear is :sunglasses:)

Correct. It is not an audible driving aid to determine vehicle speed, rather a mask for some less-flattering noise or for some other aesthetic reason.
If the tone/pitch is based off engine RPM, then one might argue that it could be used to approximate engine speed, but not vehicle speed. Engine sound (be it muzak or authentic) vs. vehicle speed has eight possible ranges in this vehicle.

The likely answer is that this programming was developed for the Mach-E and other electrics for aesthetics and someone thought it cool enough to add to the Sport Mode experience. Got a hammer, and every thing looks like a nail sort of thing.

I'm so happy they didn't put in an automatic liftgate. Doesn't matter who makes it, those things suck
Several times I've walked out the door in the morning to find my wife's Forester automatic lift gate wide open. At least it wasn't raining the times this happened. Must have pressed the button by accident, glad the Sport doesn't have this feature.

Hopefully the outside doesn’t sound like an old lawnmower
That's why I'm surprised that this feature is on the Badlands and not the lower trims with the 3-cylinder lawnmower engine.

OMG, this is horrible news!!!

One of my wife's first comments about the new Bronco was how beefy it sounds when accelerating.

Now that I have this knowledge, I must live with this bourdon all alone, silently... so as not to crush the happiness of my long time bride!

Oh the humanity!

Like paddle shifters, a bit juvenile and appealing to the boy-racer gamer genre.
Agree 100%. So many car companies make like the paddle shifters are a selling point. Give me a good floor shifter any day!

I’m pulling a fuse to defeat the faux V-8 noises. The same reason I’m driving with a live band in the rear seats and not playing anything on the radio with sounds created on a computer.

Add it to the list of disappointments... no garage door opener, no automatic lift gate, now we have engine noises to gauge speed auditoraly instead of just the traditional visual speedometer, when we could have hosted a mobile library book club. Not to mention a computer ? shifting gears. Don’t even get me started on the thought of manually shifting a gear using a paddle ?
Plus no ammeter gauge!

A number of newer vehicles have enhanced engine sounds piped into the cabin, even Porsche does it.

I find the pumped in noise annoying. I don't use Sport mode because of it.
