On our 2022 Bronco Sport Badlands, I notice it shifts into 8th gear at 63 MPH. This is in normal mode. Seems to hold 7th gear until then. It gets great gas mileage and shifts smooth. Anyone else notice this in the Badlands or First Edition units? I figured it would get in 8th gear around 55 MPH.
Thanks!

Hey @Phil_R - It all depends on how you've been driving it. The ECU/TCU does somewhat adapt to your driving style even in Normal mode. Keep in mind that 6th gear is a 1:1 ratio, while 7th and 8th are overdrive gears for cruising and fuel mileage. Were you driving up slight grades when it was holding 7th gear? Running what grade fuel? The shift points seem pretty normal to us.

Thanks Corey! Running regular fuel driving easy on flat roads and hilly roads both. Does not seem to make any real difference when it shifts to 8th gear at 63 MPH. On my Jeep Gladiator Rubicon I had, it would shift all the time at 55 MPH between 7th and 8th gear. I really disliked that as it seemed to always be shifting and I felt it may cause tranny issues after a lot of miles. On this Bronco Sport, doing 50 MPH on flat roads in 7th gear, indicated on the dash I am getting 30+ MPG and that is wonderful. Thanks again for the reply!!!

It sure would be nice to have 8th engage at 55. There must be a way to do it. Being gentle with the foot I get 30.6 with my Badlands. Be great to get a little more.

by slightly lifting your foot off gas when cruising you can get the transmission to shift up to the next gear. If you have the fuel economy screen up where you can see the bar moving from 0 to 40 as you drive, you will see when slightly lifting your foot off the pedal that the fuel mileage bar will move closer to the 40 mpg level and the BS should be cruising in the higher gear. Having a heavy foot on the pedal I think would keep the bar on the graph at lower mpg level. I use this technique to try and get the average mpg reading up.

The transmission will upshift to 8th at 63 mph. You may then slow to approx 55 as long as the road is flat and you don't attempt to accelerate. If the car downshifts you must accelerate back to 63 before it will upshift to 8th. If you are an a hilly road it's near impossible to get the transmission to stay in 8th below 65 mph.

Mine isn't a 1st edition, a coupel years newer, but mine will go in to 8th as early as 50mph aslong as it is dead level or slightly down hill and I am not tcellerating in any ways.

Can I jump in here with what I've observed? Thanks in advance....

Today, 03292026, we took a short drive on back roads and some freeway. On cruise at 60 mph, the rpm read 2000 rpm (needle smack dab on 2000) . That seems high if on cruise, to me. I was curious and after the light went on in my head, I clicked the + paddle to see what gear I was in. Sure enough as you all said 7th gear. I was in traffic so I didn't have room to accelerate to see when it shifts.
Now, getting on freeway, I got up to cruise at 70 mph and clicked paddle to check gear. 8th gear now, but rpms are slightly less (per the needle..1950 maybe ???) than at 60 mph. So that is interesting!

Here is my dilemma... in January, I changed tires from stock Pirellis to Cooper Defenderer 235s. My mileage dropped by 3.5 mpg on highway. But, about the same time, if I remember right, Ford made a software change to the 2.0 about that time...forgot why....something to do with increasing the life of the engine?... If they changed the shift points, would that affect my mileage that much for that engine.

Are you allowing for the change in circumference of the new tires (I believe yours came with 225's)? If not, you're nearly 4mph faster than the speedo (70 speedo, 73.7 actual), and odometer readings (and hence mileage calcs) will be off similarly.
