Getting ready for March... Carrying 400 lbs of maple sap

for better securing of tank i would just replace the bungee cords with ratchet straps and get a screw and washer through the ends into the plywood you got there. and ratchet them down.
The bigger question i have is how are you going to fill and drain the tank cleanly? i see the spout at the back for draining. maybe put a tarp down first underneath the plywood with a bit of an extra bib on it out the back to cover the bumper too.

Oh ya, the photo I posted was just to see how it fit, the bungee straps were so it didn’t slide around while I brought it home

It’ll be ratchet strapped down with a small towel or something like that up by the drain.

I’ve got a bulkhead fitting I’m going to put in the top cap and use my Milwaukee M18 transfer pump to fill and drain it.

Raw sap is 98-99% water. Can’t even tell a difference from plain water.

First video is from the trees through the lines. Second video is from the lines into the barrel. Third video is after one pass through the RO machine, which puts us at about 6% sugar.

Not worth collecting today. Sap just started running. Going back out in the morning to collect.

Went back and got everything cleaned up and ready to go though… and ended up getting two of our IBC totes connected to act as one.

I don’t have my tapping spot ready to go yet, but we got 90 gallons of sap in our main spot (130 trees tapped) in less than 24 hours. Sap didn’t start running until yesterday morning… so, we left it alone yesterday when we were out there. But not bad so far.

At least it’s a hobby that my ADHD can tolerate yearly. It’s a month long hobby, which is about as long as I can stay focused on something until I go off onto something entirely different.
