This reminds me off my work van, a 2021 Ram Promaster. It will let me manually select through all 9 gears, however, 8th and 9th don’t do anything. The RPMs don’t change after I hit 7th gear.
The 7 speed manual in a corvette has 3 overdrives. 6th and 7th are almost identical. I think it’s more for CAFE and top speed bragging rights than actual use.

Try to get it above 60 then get into 8th gear.

50mph in 8th gear is going to be hard on the trans… I’m going to guess that’s out of spec for fords guidelines, because, well imagine if someone forgets, and tried passing someone, that trans is going to be very unhappy.

And no, you most likely will not feel the shift between 2-3… it’s literally the same RPM.

So, let’s say you shift from 1-2 at 2500rpm, then it drops to 1900rpm, you get it to 2500rpm and shift to third, it may drop 100rpms… you won’t notice it. Every other gear is normal though.
Definitely need to be around 60 MPH to shift into 8th gear. Manually trying to shift from 7 to 8 at
50 MPH will cause the gear indicator to flash.

Our 2021 Badlands will stay in 7th at 55 - 60. I'm not sure when it upshifts to 8th.

I just got back from my hour ride this morning. It does indeed shift to 8th gear but, doesn't do it until I hit 60 mph. That's crazy. My 2018 Mustang Ecoboost shifted in to 10th after 47 MPH.

Different transmissions.

Different differentials.

Different gearing.

It’s not crazy, it’s by design.

Turbocharged engines do not like being in low RPMs and being throttled down. Valve float will occur when all things aren’t cohesive. So, as stated previously, it’s by design to prevent engine damage.

The mustang may have had ten gears, but the final drive could have been different enough to allow it to be within a spec allowance.

Maybe because the Mustang is a two-door coupe and the BS is basically a very small utility vehicle?

Yeah, maybe Ford felt like the Bronco Sport need higher RPMs on the highest gear or the bad aerodynamics would bog the small engines down.

Be adventurous and try it at 80mph
Heck no, I take it easy on my cars. The 2018 Ecoboost Mustang I traded in for this Bronco Sport had 104,000 trouble free miles because I took it easy on the car. Not like I stole it. The only thing I did to the car was replace tires, batteries and windshield wipers.

80 is… hard on a vehicle?

The speed limit on the freeway here is 75… please tell me you don’t think that 5 over that is hard on a vehicle.

No, not hard on a vehicle but, I take it much easier and don't live near freeways. Like when I go to my local Food Lion grocery store it's only 13 minutes away on a 55 mph road. So, while 80 is not hard necessarily hard on a vehicle, 50-55 is much easier on them.
