If I use my paddle shifters, the highest it lets me get is 7th gear. Is it supposed to show 8?

Wanna know an even more exciting tidbit…

Second gear gets skipped in normal driving operations. 1st->3rd then the rest.

Manual shifting only allows me through 7. Only allowed 6th gear in sport on my typical drives.

What speed were you going when you tried getting into 8th.

Asking because, the computer WILL limit you up shifting into a gear that is outside of its allowances.

Example, you can’t manually shift into 5th gear going 10mph.

I usually try it around 50 or higher. Sometimes I will downshift with the left side paddle then upshift a couple of times and it never gets above 7th. Tomorrow I am traveling an hour away. I will try to pay attention several times to how many times it shifts. If it has 8 gears I should see/feel 7 shifts from 1st gear right?

Try to get it above 60 then get into 8th gear.

50mph in 8th gear is going to be hard on the trans… I’m going to guess that’s out of spec for fords guidelines, because, well imagine if someone forgets, and tried passing someone, that trans is going to be very unhappy.

And no, you most likely will not feel the shift between 2-3… it’s literally the same RPM.

So, let’s say you shift from 1-2 at 2500rpm, then it drops to 1900rpm, you get it to 2500rpm and shift to third, it may drop 100rpms… you won’t notice it. Every other gear is normal though.

I'm pretty sure when you push a paddle to put it in manual mode, it will show you which gear you are in, right?

If so, just drive steady state at expressway speeds in whatever mode you are interested in and push the upshift paddle. If it's already in the highest gear it will allow, you won't see/ feel an upshift and the display will tell you what gear you are in. If by chance it changes gears when you press the upshift paddle, it's a pretty good bet you were one gear lower than what is displayed after the upshift. If you're still unsure, just make note of the vehicle speed and RPM before entering manual mode and then change gears in manual mode until you find the same speed/rpm point. Then you'll know for sure what gear you were in. You'll have to be sure you're on relatively flat ground and trying to hold a steady speed to ensure the torque converter remains locked so the vehicle speed/rpm relationship is fixed and constant.

I have only had this 2022 Bronco Sport for a week. I have yet to drive over 60 MPH. Maybe I haven't gone fast enough to get to 8th gear. I'm a retired old guy. I take it pretty slow. Still, by manually shifting the right side to shift to a higher gear around 55, I would think it would shift to 8th gear. Maybe not, I'm not going fast enough!

I find this crazy. The 2018 Mustang ecoboost automatic 10 speed cruising slow hit 10th gear at 46 MPH! Wow, Ford really changed that.

Wait till you find out our 8F35 shoulda coulda been a 9 speed, but Ford dropped a gear. Design-collaborator GM uses all 9.

This reminds me off my work van, a 2021 Ram Promaster. It will let me manually select through all 9 gears, however, 8th and 9th don’t do anything. The RPMs don’t change after I hit 7th gear.
