Hi all,

I haven’t driven my 2021 bronco sport much since May. I have been driving it 30 miles a week to once every two weeks. Today it was chilly (Colorado Mountains). I tried to turn on the heat and it blew cold. I got home and checked the coolant. Looks empty (or very low). I had the water pump fail awhile back and replaced under warranty.y dealership closed. Any suggestions on what to do? I saw someone with the same issue filled the coolant and blew the head gasket. I’m at least 120 miles to the dealership.

It's likely you have cooling system leak, you can check around in the engine compartment specifically the water pump area looking for any signs of leakage. There are people here that have had their water pump replaced multiple times.

Another possibility is when the dealer replaced the water pump they may not have gotten all the air out of the system when they ffilled the system with coolant and now the system has bled itself and the result being the coolant level is low.

In the meantime you can add more coolant to the reservoir (while the engine is cool) and monitor the level for a few days to see if the level changes.

Thank you! I did add that. Hopefully I can get it to a dealership this week.

I’m so glad I waited multiple hours before putting any coolant in and haven’t driven it since. Thank you for the help

Not necessarily… the 1.5L water pump issue affects some ‘21-‘24s but no one except Ford knows the percentage of affected vehicles.

fjbear!, there are a lot of posts about water pump problems on the 1.5L engine. Not everyone has the problem but a lot do. I would suggest to just keep an eye on the coolant level in your reservoir tank. If you see a significant drop or have to keep adding coolant, you might get it checked out.

Be sure the dealer performs/uses the updated Coolant System Flush Bulletin SM 52357 when changing the water pump this time. This bulletin was not released until after the water pump was changed on my vehicle the 2nd time. It requires that they flush the entire coolant system as part ofthe water pump replacement. See https://www.tsbsearch.com/Ford/SSM52357
