Open tailgate from inside?

Seriously though, I really hate powered lift/tail gates. Heavier, slower, something else to go wrong, if they’re operated with a magic foot movement they rarely work. And the only positive reason for them (too many bags in arms to operate manually) is a better reason to put some bags down and make two journeys (at our ages and with physios costing what they do).

Our Bronco Sport Badlands Sasquatch 2025 does not open the tailgate with two presses on any of the fob buttons from inside. It unlocks, but doesn't release - you still have to manually open the tailgate with the external handle. All buttons on the fob tried with fast and slow two-presses.

Would love to hear from other car campers in 2025 BSes whether they have managed to effect egress via the tailgate without needing to do the contortions necessary to reach the button by the headlamp switch.

Aha! Different fob. Both of ours look like this, without the tailgate graphic. Double-pressing that from outside the car, with the car locked, performs a remote-start. Looks like they gave with one hand and stole with the other.

My 24 badlands key FOB looks exactly like OP's. cprcubed has a Big Bend and has the rear hatch button where I have the remote start button.

Yeah and keyfob decontenting started early but also different models in the same year were given different keyfob functionality

I think I recall owners locating upgraded keyfobs and were able to program but don’t remember the details

Thanks to everyone for their help, I'm off to make an advanced remote tailgate release device for activation of dashboard button from the rear cabin - or a long stick with a rubber tip, to the less technically minded.
