Why did you order a Bronco Sport?

I still can't say why I ordered my Badlands. There's no single reason. I wanted to replace my '17 Escape when the extended warranty ran out. I really didn't like the 4th Gen Escape design.
I want to buy local for my convenience for dealer service. That leaves me with Kia/Hyundai, Chevy Buick GMC, and Jeep. I won't buy any Japanese car. The Chevy Trax, and Buick Encore GX really appeal to me, but I thought they were just too anemic. I was really happy with my '04 BMW X3 until year 13, but the dealer moved 24 miles away from my home and the next closest dealer was 22 miles away but south of a miserable traffic circle (aka roundabout). I'd like another VW GTI but don't like the lack of physical controls for HVAC etc. That dealer is also located south of that accident prone traffic circle.
I liked the 2.0L in my Escape. I found the 1.5L I3 performance acceptable but saw early on the water pump failures and the stupid design/engineering decision by Ford to not have an idler pulley which maintains belt tension.
When I saw the Bronco Sport, it reminded me somewhat of my oldest brother's IH Scout II, which I found attractive. I was never a fan of the 1966 Bronco though.
As soon as ordering for the '24 was open, I ordered my Badlands. I was up in the air about color. I really like the Atlas Blue, and Oxford White, and Cyber Orange (no longer available), but also wanted to go with the style of my '84 VW GTI: Black and a thin red body pinstripe. I added a second parallel red stripe to my '84 GTI, and so that was a given that I would do that. I had intended to do the same to my '17 Escape, but it just didn't have the personality or soul. It was a car, just a good reliable car. The only personalization I did on the car was replace the fender trim with a black one. I'm not a fan of chrome, except maybe on show cars.

And now, the Bronco Sport has become an obsession that I just can't shake. I bought about 2 grand of add-ons (and deletion replacement parts) even before I received the car. I ordered a few things even before I ordered the car. I found black cloth folding headrests on eBay from a rollover about a month after I ordered my car.

I ordered mine because I worked on it! I worked for Ford for 31 years on many many products. I retired at the end of 2023 and I had to buy my cars instead of the company lease. We bought the Corsair for my wife. I am not big truck guy. I was debating between the Maverick and the Sport. These are both products that I had a huge role from concept to production validation and I am immensely proud of that. In the end, I decided that the Bronco Sport fit my lifestyle better and bought it! I wanted the Cyber Orange with a black roof and it was hard to find. My local dealer exchanged an expedition with a dealer in Ohio to get me mine!

I love it!

The favorite memory is how it came about! Originally, there was no Bronco Sort in the cycle plan. We were working on the next generation Escape, Corsair and another variant that looked similar "statuesque" silhouette.

Then the Bronco Truck came to being and the buzz was amazing. So, the seniors wanted to tap into that feeling. We may have lost certain customers who were fans of the original boxy Escape when the product and the styling went European. So, a decision was made to change the front end to a boxy design and an aggressive stance, stick a bronco grille and logo and call it Bronco Sport. We hated the "Baby Bronco" terminology! We decided to add some off road cred with new suspension and tuning. It did great in our tests. Never did I imagine it'll become what is has. When the launch team took it to Moab and it climbed Hell's revenge right behind the Bronco truck, I got so emotional!

Bingo!

I’m definitely in that camp. I was looking for a second car now that I’m home all the time, and the 2010-era Escape was the closest SUV-ish thing that appealed to me, albeit a little long in the tooth.

Ultimately, the BS checked more boxes than anything else, and required the least amount of compromise.
